To be honest, I feel the MC's brother feel like the Big Bad. To get the medicine for his mother, to save that one person, anyone else dying would be fine? Some of his friends do not want to risk dying and climb the tower, just so that he can find an item and heal his mother. That is something normal and expected. At the end, the brother sounds pretty much insane with his obsession.
And the brother is a cold special ops killer going for revenge. Now I wanna know what the mother was before getting sick to raise those 2.
A normal housewife who has some kind of serious illness, younger brother went to the tower to search for medicine but got killed. 3yrs after he went to the tower the mother died because she couldn't take that he disappeared. Older brother no longer have any relatives so he joined the military to get away from their house.
That was only a theory by that guy though, lol. Based on the shown story first brother was good guy greg, introverted and a scholar, weak and justice minded. Going through hardship so his brother wouldn't have to. Meanwhile, going through a 'game' like that changes you, but i am sure he was still 'Good' faction, just more chaotic. Now the second one was always the under performer looking up to his achieving brother. Yet he was more extroverted , outgoing and physical activity oriented. First brother never 'lost' family as he was unaware of mother's passing, so remained hopeful. Second brother lost his whole family. Military shows you the dark side of life and you end up with PTSD or emotional detachment. So, physically fit brother that had to survive by himself, with military training and mind-state , add up going through the memories of his brother so much that he pretty much became part of him. Super-soldier gains scholar library, throws away humanity to get even. Whille his brother only expected him to get the potion and save his mom. Then again, there's plenty of room for twists, like brother being alive etc.
I know the brothers can be like this just by having The MC Syndrome(tm), but making the mother anything more that just a normal housewife can be an interesting plot point. Maybe their real family name is Uchiha or something
