Request Short Story Writing Contest

I am thinking

• that the first 3 weeks of the month will be used for submissions
• and the last week for voting.

• Real Cash prize for the winner in US Dollars.
• Readers will vote for the story via a poll
• No ownership rights involved. Just a simple award
• What do I gain from it? Good PR for my website beats paying Google for advertisements
• Cash prize can be exchanged for sponsored chapters of the winner's choice

I have not done this before and will like as much feedback as possible
and this is a serious thread
Who knows I might discover the next Mad Snail

have you make serious organizer?
one man army is hard you know especially for contest which have money prize
well if you get 1k entries and only 7 person as judge

Anyway, what sort of stories, how long, how much cash, will you be making money with it if it's succesful etc.

 

For starters, it is just giving out a monthly award, the story can be taken down by the author whenever he/she wants.
Basically, it is will be good PR for my website, nothing more

rather than monthly as starter better do it annually or each semester to test your contest system and it impact~
to make your team experience it~
you can follow NUF writing contest from last NUF birthday celebration~
just readjust it rule and prize for your own usage~

You should ask @Nom de Plume, who hosted the last short story competition. Judging takes longer than you think.

You can poll, but it’s sort of human nature for people to vote for their friends — at least, that’s sort of what happened with the NUF anniversary polls.

You can make it as un-rigorous or very-rigorous as you like, but if there’s a cash prize, it may be good to plan well.

Hmmmmm, I don't think there is much of a secret in hosting a contest like that though, rather, I think your idea is pretty neat, especially because the readers are the ones in charge of voting, which means you have less work on your plate.


I think it's better to give a theme for the writers at each month though, making it too broad will just make readers vote on the genre they prefer, completely ignoring story quality.

It's also really hard to write with no topic in mind, so giving a few restrictions actually makes it easier for people to participate... Just a theme and maybe a genre should be enough.
