Discussion Should detective pikachu have an asian lead?

I thought there should have been one, the only asian actors I can even remember seeing in recent movies are jackie chan, jet li and bruce lee and they're either dead [rip bruce lee] or getting really old.

I don't even know any japanese actors popular in hollywood except for ken watanabe and he's way too old to be the lead.

 

Really? I thought going for the current lead was a pretty brave choice in the first place

 

I mean, I thought the whole point was to be as ridiculous and abnormal as possible? Not saying an Asian couldn't do that, but if that is the case ( being crazy) I should think skin color or race means jackshit.

No they aren't.

 

Or they give the best person for role the job. No doubt they had a wide variety of actors apply for the role.

However giving the role to someone, just because they are Asian is madness and also how is that supposed to make the actor feel any better knowing the only reason they got the role was because he ticked a box to appease some people.

Not forgetting that the Pokemon games themselves, are set all across the world, so it's perfectly feasible to have anybody of a wide range of nationalities play the MC.

 

I kinda don't care about the humans being white, black or pink with polka dots. I am there for the Pokémons. Unless it is a japan/ asian studio doing it in their own native language, odds of an asian young star to play as the ML is odd. The sequel maybe, to be played in somewhere in the eastern side of the world?

If we were being realistic, pikachu should chew up everything, crap and pee every few steps, and have several hundred kids.

It should just be the best actors gets the part, not race quotas. Unfortunately, lately it's all about quotas and people complaining that it's only diversity if a black guy gets a role.
