Today I wanted to talk about side pairings in any novel. For some reason I really hate them. Like in a romance novel if the second pair is between best friend of the male character and best friend of the female character my enjoyment gets cut in half. Like why??
Then there's one between the siblings. Or the most infuriating pairing of all, the people who used like the main characters get together. I'm not understanding this phenomenon.
I'm noticing this in yaoi/yuri too. Even there the siblings or best friends get together.
Why? Was there no other people? Are the writers simply being lazy?

Couldn’t it be because if the male lead and female lead get into a relationship, then their friends become acquainted through them. So there’s a chance they could fall for each other. This cuts the chance of other people getting with the friends~
