that article 13 thing doesn't sound like it's realistically possible to enforce. there's no way in hell a company would be able to keep track of everything that *may* be copyrighted (at least, not without completely dismantling fair use), much less be capable of hiring/supporting enough to people to do an even remotely decent job of checking EVERY video before it gets published.

Only very large companies would be able to even try to do so, crowding any smaller businesses out. And the ones that could would have to rely heavily on algorithms and AI to do so (although, if I recall, the articles do require human input somewhere along the chain), which would, by necessity, be very broad and heavy-handed. Essentially, ANY law that puts the copyright onus on forums and other public spaces instead of the posters themselves would force companies to take very oppressive measures to protect themselves.

The end result, I think, would be that many web companies simply withdraw their presence from the EU entirely and avoid the problem. You end up with a situation similar to China in some respects.

One of the main reasons I voted out is the EU is a madhouse with delusions of grandeur run by unelected dictators.

The big fear is that it will be enforced by someone's discretion, ie no one will follow it but if the government officials don't like you its a tool they have to use against you. So, laws like this aren't meant to apply to anyone except those 'they' don't like.
Given how the big tech firms are bending over backwards for governments around the world, the internet will be subject to all laws of all lands simultaneously.

And only enforceable on their own soil.

Why? it would only affect the users of those countries and considering everything on this site is added by the translators themselves, it's the translator's problem.

NU only hosts links and a forum, and you don't host any TLed novels on the site, only discussion of them

Start from banning small things, ads or whatever. Then slowly increase censure. Freedom of speech declines. But hey, let’s stick our heads in the sand, shall we?

Perhaps that’s not gonna happen. (Yet). I’m in a pessimistic- sarcastic mood today. Was reading sovereign of judgment. Still, all these stories we read are made by people who live somewhere on this planet. So we are all going to be affected sooner or later. It’s just that in some countries like China, NK, Russia or some places like that it’s done in a more “dictatorship” style as there is a long history of oppression of the masses.

Where as in EU, USA, etc, it’s done in a more covert way. Take places like Sweden, Switzerland and Nordic places like that. Although they seem to be well taken care of, in reality society is so structured that there is no place for “mistakes”. But it’s not visible on the surface. On the surface it’s all polite and happy smiles. But like majority of your income goes to taxes and social services and insurance. That is if you do get a job.

Recently I’ve been feeling a bit disgusted as I started noticing some hypocrisy of many little thing that pile up. Let’s add internet and censure to that. Though, really, in some cases dictatorship could be useful to decrease drugs, theft, rape and all that.

    Who knows?

We are sending objections massively to our representatives.

While it was pushed back the first time our country has shits pushed forward by their parties.

One of them actually said that Article 13 is not only a good thing but that he will not put up with spamming.

    Motherfucker.

Last choice will be blocking EU from accessing your/my websites. It's their loss. They want to be a hermit union, then so be it.

Due to the GDPR nonsense, some have already taken that route. Because compliance is more expensive than simply blocking access.
