The stuff about disabling multi-processes that used to work before? Yeah, those don't work anymore. From Firefox 68 (the latest, Ai-chan's firefox autoupdated yesterday), you are no longer allowed to run Firefox on single processes anymore. Firefox too wants to eat Mr. RAM like Chrome now. So sucks to those who still has 2GB RAM. Say goodbye to your systems unless you run 4 tabs only or manages to find some light browsers.

This is not a rumour, Mozilla themselves confirmed that this mandatory multi-processes system uses up to 20% more memory than before. You can no longer refuse to run your firefox on multi-processes. However, you can force firefox to limit how many processes it can run, supposedly. Ai-chan can't get it to work. Ai-chan did manage to push it down from 8 processes to 4 processes, which took it down from 2.9GB RAM down to 900MB RAM. So maybe it does work, but Ai-chan doesn't know how it works. Ai-chan preferably wants to push it down to 1 process.

If this memory hike is a problem for you, you can learn how to do it here.

i was using chrome firefox in the past, but most of the time i always had 100tabs more open, so even with a decent pc for my country standard and the world, it was lagg as hell and used a lot of resources , sometimes i reached 200tabs+, because of a accumulation of laziness with link from youtube plus every other thing you may imagine, from meme link that someone send to you and you opened it but forget to see and choice to read it later, to favorites novels tabs to update everyday to see the release.
So i started to search for alternative browser outside of the mainstream that everyone knows about to solve it, and i found it, i found multiples ones that i can say is better than chrome or firefox in managing all of that i talked above and using far less resources than both of them.
As right now i'm using one called vivaldi it have a lot of in build tools that in other Browser you would need addon to have but the best part of it is the consumption is minuscule, as right now i'm having 107 tabs opens in 3 windows (because i like to keep one window for youtube-music , other for novels, and other for daily browsing). all of them on the run and is using a little more than 2gb of ram and cpu is always super low, and this Browser have a slept tab option that terminate the use of ram for old tabs so it can keep it lower but i'm not even using it and is still at 2gb range.
so yeah if you are having problems with mainstream browser, go check this one called vivaldi, for novel users,it have a inbuild reading mode plus page contrast settings and filters change as well for when you open that website from your favorite novel but it have a horrible all white theme in background, is marvelous!.

Ai chan should consider dropping firefox in favor of some other browser. There are some chromium-based browsers that don't eat RAM like there is no tomorrow. It sounds like Vivaldi browser might be to Ai chan's liking.
As for firefox, if they implemented it in a way that there is no setting, there is nothing you can do, short of downloading their code, editing it, and building your own firefox.

They didn't say it'd use up to 20% more memory. They said it'd use up to 20% more memory with one extra content process. If you're using eight content processes, you're actually looking at roughly doubled RAM usage. More than double, depending on the operating system. (No, not 20% more each time, it's not a linear increase).

That said, I would like to point out that the above statistics, being the same the article is drawing on, come from 2016 and are probably about as accurate as the editing on the average Qidian Webnovel. These numbers are three years old ffs.

    isn't that a bit harsh

although in firefox case they did not improve their memory leaks that much, in general, 3 years for software is like a thousand years for human civilization. It can drastically change to the point you won't recognize it.

Yknow, I have a friend who has countless tabs open at all times. I never really understood him. Can someone explain the need for the many tabs? Isn't this why you can organize your favorites into folders and just... open folder when you want to access it? I do sometimes have many tabs open (esp with H), but I close as I go along.

Don't know about your friends, but I have a crap ton of tabs open for research. I just have to constantly look up many different things and it just better to have the web page already open at the information I need.

    Bookmarks system:
You like something, you put it into a folder. Maybe you just want to read it later, but not really interested in keeping it. But you put it in bookmarks anyway, because you don't want to keep it as a tab. So you keep adding more and more and more, until you have 3000 bookmarks, most of which you don't really want. So you spend an entire day trying to manage your bookmarks, give up and keep adding more. The time it takes to bookmark may not be much, but the time it takes to manage you bookmarks may take a lifetime. And then when you want to search for something, you wonder, "Did I put it in Pornhub or Porn?" or "Did I put it in Technology or World Domination or Interesting Stuff or Architecture?" If you are done with the site or no longer interested in reading, you have to go up to the bookmarks menu, look for the folder, then look for the bookmark, which can take a long time.

    Tabs system:
Wow, this is really interesting! Right click open as another tab to read later. Tomorrow suddenly thought about reading the tab opened, you know where it is, because it's just three tabs to the left of your current tab. Half a year later, you realize that there was something you read before that applies now, but you don't remember what exactly it was, but you do know that it's very close to the end and boom, you just click to check from the far right tab. If you don't want to read it anymore, you just scroll to that tab and click x.

If you use bookmarks, you have to go through all 3000 bookmarks because you have no idea where you save it in or even what the title of the site is. If you use tabs, you just jump straight to the end, you know roughly where things are in relation to what you're currently looking at even when you don't know what it is. Ai-chan does use bookmarks, though, mostly for stuff that Ai-chan predict will be useful even a year later, but for shorter term, Ai-chan use tabs.

I have a 2011 laptop and have been using Firefox with multiprocess enabled since it came out, I have like 80 tabs opened, but it doesn't give me problems because I have them unloaded (does not use resources until you click on them).
I recommend you this 2 add-ons, for tab management:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/basic-panorama/
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/auto-tab-discard/

The first allows you to manage and group tabs any way you want, for example a group with tabs of manga to read later or tabs with YouTube videos to watch when you get back.

The second unloads the tabs that you're not using from your memory so they don't use any resources (they will still be on Firefox but you need to click on them for them to reload), you can set the time for a tab to be unloaded or do it manually.

Also Unlock origin is relatively small and uses little resources and can help you a lot by blocking adds that otherwise would make a page to use a lot more resources than necessary

Not really sure what to think about it, firefox is usually my go-to browser after chrome and I always used it before chrome became a thing really :/
Internet explorer? What's that, can I eat it?
