Articles suggest that Spider-man will be leaving the MCU due to a squabble between Sony and Disney (owners of Marvel) over the money and financing split. Negotiations are reportedly still ongoing but the likely result will be a removal of spidey from the MCU as well as killing any chance for spidey related characters to appear in the MCU.

Sony still owns the rights to the movie and as far as I know is still making atleast one. I believe this split happened because Marvel(Disney) wanted a 50/50 split of the Spiderman profits

As i understand it, Disney want to 50/50 everything (i.e Disney would pony up 50% of all costs to make spidey stuff) in exchange for 50% of profits and being able to bring in other spidey related characters like Venom into the MCU.

Sony wanted the current deal which is: they get everything except for the 5% cut to Marvel for doing the creative stuff.

Sony has reportedly blamed Disney for planning more expansion of the MCU after picking up more Marvel characters from the 21st Century Fox purchase early last year

Marvel Studios (Disney) has been making these Tom Holland movies, and now that the franchise has taken off, want more money out of it. Understandable.

And a 50/50 split is unreasonable considering how much the Amazing Spiderman films made at the box office.
They'd make more money doing movies themselves.

Disney's negotiation tactics could be seen as borderline bullying, but they were probably planning for lengthy counter offers, and Sony dropped the ball by not bringing anything to the table.

This screws the MCU, but they'll probably find a way to fix it:
    "Where's the kid?"
    "Off World".

Sony however, is going to have to use only Spiderman IP from now on, and will have to write/direct these movies alone. Which may prove to be too bland in these superhero-crowded box office times.

They will possibly reach to a negotiation, this is such a big cash grab for both studios. The latest spiderman crossed 1 billion $. Maybe 20-30% could be agreed on as opposed to the asked 50/50.

There's more to it than that, like the fact that Disney has merchandising rights which they probably make more off of than the movie itself makes and that they get to use Spiderman in their own movies with Sony getting no cut on those

In addition, the Spiderman movies that Sony made on their own made on average 750 million so anything greater than 20 percent and they're making less than before and make a competitor richer in the process which makes no sense

Spiderverse was Sony to begin with?

I would have thought so too but apparently Sony just turned the offer down outright without any sort of counter-offer.

Honestly, both Disney and Sony are probably being a bit greedy. It's just that currently in the court of public opinion, Sony's getting a beating because Spidey's very popular in the MCU.

In an interesting side-twist, reportedly due to complicated contracts (details of which i havent found yet) Sony HAS to make a spider-man movie every few years or the rights will automatically be legally returned to Marvel/Disney. That's why we've had 3 different spidey movie series in the past 2 decades.

Sony probably did that to gain an edge over negotiations, there were news that negotiations were still going on.
Yeah, in public's eyes Disney has an edge over Sony due to Marvel. I mean Avengers is the biggest universal hit in recent years.

its the opposite.....Sony doesn't get any share from merchandise sales or anything else apart from the movie.....and 50% split is not a good deal for Sony considering all those toys and whatnots dont generate any money for Sony.....Disney got greedy coz FFH made a billion....
but frankly i am somewhat pleased...with how woke Marvel is becoming with female Thor and that stupid black Iron Man comics, and the possibility of turning Spider-Man gay, i think Sony pulling out its IP is a smart move.....
