    Any recommendations for stories where the protagonist has a rival that is on an equal level with him until the very end. An example would be something like Scryed with Kazuma and Ryuho.

    Search the novel with 'multiple protagonists' as the tag, i think you'll find one.

    Douluo Dalu has something similar to that I believe, but I wouldn't recommend it. (Although I'm literally the one recommending it here. lol)
    Anyway, I just feel that that character was the worst part of this amazing novel. Not really a bad character per say, just a character that you just wish wasn't there. Like, she feels completely off topic to me.

    Also, The King’s Avatar is filled with amazingly strong rivals! You might enjoy that. It's completely translated too, you'll not find all the chapters here but you can just google it.

    are you only looking for novels? because I can list dozens of manga/manhwa if you want

    Tsuyokute New Saga (manga translations is several volumes ahead of novel)
