Struggling to remember different 'typical' encounters that you see in cultivation novels

Like the title said, encounters such as the 'young master' encounters that you typically see in a cultivation novel. Trying to make a list for everything that you can expect to happen in a cultivation novel, any help making said list is appreciated so I can reference those encounters and use them as a base to work off of for an original I am planning to write.

 

Rather than a list I believe a table is your best solution, attributes depends on what you think is important to remember about the character, for example: character's name, relationship to the MC, characteristics, progress, last appearence (chapter's number), items, other(unique traits fr example)

Is it possible you can't remember all those encounters because most of them is not really different and worth remembering in the first place?
From what I read about cultivation novels, most follow the same pattern of encountering cookie cutter young masters, making an enemy of them and kicking their ass, then repeating it every arc. Insert generic damsels in distress and other random females falling for the MC for little to no reason for bonus points.

 

Most cultivation novels are absolute garbage and even the better one struggle to get slightly better than mediocre. And as Arkus said: You struggle to remember because they were a worthless waste of time and page space to beginn with.

 

Here's how it usually goes:

1. The MC is a cripple who gets some heaven defying treasure/ or gets replaced by a transmigrated soul with a cheat.
2. MC defeats cousin/ clan brother.
3. Cousin's brother, who is more powerful comes. Gets defeated.
4. MC takes first place in family martial contest, surprising everybody.
5. While kicking young master asses, hunting beasts in forests, gathering some low order treasures, time passes until martial selection tournament for powerful sect approaches.
6. MC, the dark horse, takes first place, but is often disregarded cuz he comes from small place, doesn't hv innate talent.
7. Impresses beauty, incurs wrath of pursuer.
8. Repeat points 2 and 3. Except, this time, there's also an elder behind them, who causes difficulties for MC.
9. MC somehow manages to find some neglected, dust laden, high-level technique (which nobody can apparently practice) among the low order ones he is permitted access to.
10. Pavilion old librarian (powerhouse in disguise) warns MC against said manual practice. MC is polite but stays firm. Future backer acquired.
11. Some ancient mystical dimension is about to open. Tournament. Repeat step 6. MC levels up/gains treasures.

P.S. Rinse and repeat for authentic cultivation novel feel. Also add a few more beauties/harem (better go for mindless, jade-like ones; they're apparently easy to catch) to the mix- for enhanced effect.

Encounters that I can remember from cultivation novels usually start off verbal at young ages. As the age of characters go up, the amount of violence used increases. There's probably a statistic somewhere for violence and age, but that's not really causation. Also, I believe most encounters are between groups of people or group vs. individual rather than 2 individuals. Some encounters can be plans of antagonists and other encounters are coincidences.

 

Haven't thought of using a table with story planning before. Honestly I thought I was more likely to end up with a wall or 2 in my room covered in notes with strings attaching them just like in movies/shows haha

 

Right, I was trying to think of other things that I could use to modify in a way that doesn't feel like it's following that pattern

Fiancee that leaves for an AYM.
Archnemesis that's way too OP for the current MC(ATG is a good example).
Evil ladies that end up being raped by the MC, fall in love with him, then start killing the other haremettes(my favorite, don't tell anyone).

Then again, you could also having talking glasses, talking jelly, talking parrot, talking alchemist furnace etc.

5. Masochistic "hard work" surpassing every single other thing out there for MC

6. MC finds something trashy which actually is a treasure only mc knows about

7. Martial arts tournaments

8. Instead of talking, every line is "[insert generic line here]" character x laughed

9. Everybody drinks booze of some sort whenever drinking anything is mentioned.

10. MC makes harem of "my women" who seem to completely not care about the other women in harem

11. Despite having harem, it's members are generally dropped and are never mentioned again after Mc's power inflation drops them from the board

12. Secret realms galore

13. Everybody is obsessed with 'face' but whenever mc gets his hands on beauty/treasure, all ancestors and villains throw their face to the winds.

14. Everyone prefers caves, regardless of what modern/magic comforts exist.

15. Obsession with purity of x, where x can be blood, essence, qi, iron, water, anything. Even if it doesn't make sense that "pure water is 100x more powerful than less pure water" it still gets used.

16. Mysterious male love interests are always super strong qiqgong experts

17. Female love interests can get treated like dirt and even raped but they magically fall in love with mc

18. Romance is essentially male mc acting like utter dick(black belly) and the female love interests lapping that up as doormats they are.

19. Nakama power, but nakama is replaced with "my unyielding will -MC".

20. Cultivation involves sitting for [insert large number here] years to circulate/gather qi. Nobody seems to go with setting where cultivation and martial arts involve actual training over sitting in caves

21. Pills cure everything, stuff like wound binding, bone setting, psychiatry(oh boy now I get it), surgery to remove foreign bodies get ignored.

22. Everything has to be solved by killing, if it isn't, the spared guy comes back for more and usually gets killed

23. Cold weapons are superior over technology

This is where I figured I kinda went off what op asked but I have written this far and won't be stopped

24. MC makes enemy out of some large faction because of his pride/face

25. Women are used as "furnaces" to refine x, which is then extracted by them being seksed, which leads to them getting crippled/dead

26. Some special talents/bloodlines get extracted by using people as furnaces like in above, but is usually restricted to weaker people

27. Biggest fist is justice, techniques don't mean squat against power for some reason

28. MC is weaker so he surpasses people with secret techniques (in conflict with 27, but frequently seen together in stories)

29. Acupuncture cured everything for some reason (see pills above)

30. Guardian deity of a clan latches onto weak underdog mc

31. Overusing medicine to increase power makes people weaker in techniques and cultivation base (because sitting in cave for billion years teaches you how to punch people better)

32. Young master gets offended that mc beats him in a competition

33. You master sends assassin's aafter mc to "reclaim his honor"

34. Mc/villain is transmigrator or reincarnator

35. Mc that comes from future is some super god cultivator mentally but still acts like emotional teenager over "his women" who have no relation to him yet

36. Foodporn

37. 4 sacred animal inspired techniques

38. True master can use a blade of grass to cut apart a divine sword

39. Everyone is obsessed over better weapons despite 38

40. Poison is powerful, and often used by alchemists and assassins, but doesn't seem to do anything if it's not the same "rank" as the target/user

41. People universally hate evil sects, despite their actions often being very similar if not worse compared to the evil sects

42. Spirit stones/ similar are used as currency either for no apparent reason or because they are cultivation steroids( despite pills doing the same are bad)

43. Formation arrays are very powerful techniques, but always require the creator to be similar rank as the formation even if it's fueled by spirit stones, my tears, the plot

44. Refining is almost always about making x more pure, be it items or cultivation

45. Ancient cultivators have tombs filled with treasures for some reason (but no indication as to how the cultivator was laid to rest and why nothing was stolen by people laying him to rest)

46. Secret realms/tombs only allow people under certain level to enter

47. Mc like other disciples get soul bound weapon/artifact in his sect

48. Mc gets crippled but this is when he discovers it's the only way to inherit [insert generic secret technique here] and makes mc op

49. Cultivators can't become strong/progress in cultivation if they don't go adventure/experience the world(cultivation is still all about sitting in caves for billion trillion years even if it contradicts this)

50. Mc pisses off some young master in an auction by outbidding him so the master becomes villain
