Discussion Suggestions for must-read novels

For a while, I thought they were going in the right direction. They owned up to their mistake and started correcting it. Next thing I knew tho, they stopped translating it entirely. Unfortunately, given it's something QI has laid claim to I kind of doubt someone will pick it up as a translation project which I find even more sad.

 

It was picked back up and the pace was fast but I had already given up on it by that point

 

That had me hopeful, so I checked on Webnovel.com... Apparently new chapters stopped coming in again about 2 months ago.

At this point, I'd be happy if it gets picked up at lnmtl.com... Actually, I find that for some novels (Tales of Herding Gods for example), some stuff are more understandable at lnmtl than in the translation. Some stuff still gets lost.

To add to the original topic, I'd also recommend To Be A Power in the Shadows (JP novel). I enjoyed it the most among the JP novels I've run across since the MC is so unabashedly chuuni, but in a good way.

Oh lol I know all about the danmei- just checking my reading list lol. I meant add it as a category to this list rather than add random BL under other categories, because people tend to either love it or hate it.

Never ever recommend such a horrendous novel ever again. Dont even put it out there.

 

"To Be a Power in the Shadows!" Is one of my favorites. First time I've seen a story that manages to make the typical Japanese "desnse MC" trope work and be entertaining.

Reverend Insanity just keeps getting more and more awesome with every chapter. I have never seen another xianxia of such sheer quality and I recommend it to everyone.

 

Legend of Ling Tian. Has a low score on NU so it can be missed. IMO, it is one of the best novels out there.

 

Can you elaborate? What makes it so good?

 

Short answer, it is fun. That is if you have the same taste as me. So I don't know if what I like is also enjoyable for you.

Longer answer: I never got bored while reading it, in the majority of novels I would be bored at some point. There would be unnecessary stuff or boring dialogs. This author, however, writes pretty good dialogs. This is (IMO) one of the strongest points of Feng Ling novels. His novels are good because his dialogs are good, that is what I believe.

Another thing is that I love these setting; Reincarnation with knowledge, MC is the power in the shadows, MC has multiple badass assassins or guards to manage, MC has brotherhood, MC's girls aren't annoying, MC has an affectionate family.

Again some reviews claim the story is boring or the story doesn't move on at all. But every chapter I read was fun and filled with story. I think it is a matter of perspective so you can try to read a few chapters if it is to your taste or not.

 

Legend of Ling Tian is yet another Fengling Tianxia novel. I really liked his novels, especially TTNH,OEM and LLT. His way of writing, especially his dialogue, is the common characteristic of all his novels. Besides them all having a similar plot, of course. And being really long, too long, due to ... The dialogue. They've worn off on me a bit. I wouldn't call them must-read.

People recommending MGA as a must-read. At least choose a half-decent one, put in some effort.

Joy of Life: court intrigue (in a unique way), cultivation and some romance. It's a clever, well-planned and nicely written novel. Focus lies on intrigue, with sporadic fighting. I wish I could read it in Chinese, it's probably even better in the original language. I'm tempted to learn it.

Martial Arts Master: hands down the best wuxia/romance novel. It's essentially, well, wuxia and romance. Each half of the time. Sickeningly sweet yet still (somewhat) realistic romance, and good fighting scenes. He never really loses a fight though, that's one of the only criticisms I'd give. It's also been a good take on martial arts in the modern world, so far.

I'm surprised MAM hasn't been recommended yet. JOL isn't as well known, people do know Ze Tian Ji of the same author but JOL is completely different, miles better in my opinion. Kilometres I mean, filthy imperial system.

 

My suggestions for starters:

I Shall Seal the Heaven (OP MC that struggles to reach the top. Hilarious throughout the story with a heavy ending)
Breakers (surprisingly a Korean manhwa made it to the list. Light-hearted heroism and nothing depressing)
Tales of Demons and Gods (another good unfinished series that is worth reading)
Release that Witch (a modern guy bringing in future technology and knowledge into a world with witches for the survival of humanity)
Library of Heaven's Path (repetitive but never gets old. OP MC)
Legendary Moonlight Sculptor
