When I read the ending, I totally assummed it was just the end of the volume, since there were tons of loose ends left and it didn't really even sound like an ending, but then everything said that it was over. So, just to confirm, its actually over, and just has a bad ending, right?

Yes it’s over. At the ending SS, he’s at the eternal true god (cosmos god) realm-wise but a void god cultivation-wise. Also, the MC of SS, Lou Feng, is in lord xue ying as well. But he’s already reached the ‘supreme realm’ by then cause the storyline is in the same universe but much later on. And the ‘supreme realm’ is called chaotic origin realm in LXY iirc, it’s the true final level after cosmos/eternal god
