This series is on the surface similar to A Sword Master Childhood Friend Power Harassed Me Harshly, So I Broke Off Our Relationship And Make A Fresh Start At The Frontier As A Magic Swordsman. But there are some differences as you read on. There seem to be some dark secrets at play surrounding the MC and his friends. It plays many fantasy tropes straight but does not drag them on and is pleasant to read through.

It's complicated. I don't want to spoil anything but let's just say this childhood friend is less sympathetic and doesn't get such an easy redemption. At the same time there are circumstances explaining her treatment of the MC.
