The Crown Prince chases his wife Chinese names: 大夏风烟 太子追妻风烟起 Author: Eleven Drinkers 十一酒徒 2022, 151 Chapters + 15 extras I'm opening a threat because this is the novel I am currently procastinating with, is short, so I'm confident I'll read it fully, plus, despite is true it is quite messy (as the review on the NU page claims), it is the kind of mess that gives me instant gratification to read. This novel has clichés and tropes, but it also has surprising twists and elements compared to the ones of the genre. Female Lead isn't reincarnated nor transmigrated and is quite OP. Situations are unrealistic, despite the author bases a lot of the plot stuff in historical things. A few notes on spoilers that surprised me along the story will be post after the brief introduction: FL is the usual forgotten di (legitimate) daughter by the main household and her father is the usual shameless shitty husband who lived happily with the concubine while forgetting about his official wife and daughter... and even leeched on her dowry. There is court drama, and there is an Emperor that's quite smart too, and FL has enemies everywhere. Elements/Spoilers Spoiler: The father The father seemed to actually had loved his main wife, but he simply believes she's dead so he focused on the concubine and the son and daughter he has with her, while shamelessly stealing his disappeared wife's dowry to enrich his own house. After several chapters, mid-way in the novel, is pretty clear that despite he loved FL's mother and the mother might had liked him (she chose her marriage), the man got in as a concubine the woman that was admitted in the house as a teacher for FL. That woman also had Concubine Shu (his sister) back-up as her friend. It is hinted that for this reason FL's mother accepts the order to go to the border in behalf of the Emperor, probably feeling betrayed by the husband. Later, the father finds out that this concubine he recently insisted in raising as a Flat (equal) wife so his only son would be legitimate, has been giving him a green hat for years with his own Fourth Uncle, and that the son is not his but this Uncle's. The man suddenly realizes he was a fool to become obsessed with this woman which ended up pushing his wonderful wife away (she was a beauty, she was the one keeping the family's finances with her own dowry and she was from a powerful family that helped him get this Prime Miniser position). Spoiler: the mother The mother is MIA. She disappeared when she and the FL were sent to the border to watch it in behalf of the emperor with part of her own (maternal) family. The FL suspects the concubine, Song Mei is behind this disappearence and, perhaps, her own aunt, who is a Concubine of the emperor, who hated the woman too. Apparently, the Emperor was/is in love with her, but he could never have her. The mother has been hiding for years and giving hints through an acquaintance to the FL... and apparently has an (adulterous) relationship with the man that's helping her... when FL is about to reunite with her, she happens to almost walk into her mother doing the deed with this misterious man. FL is with the CP at the time, and they both know what the mother's doing inside the room they're not being allowed to enter... btw, at this rate FL & CP have made out many times, but FL doesn't concede to his marriage proposal. She's even given him a hand-job LOL. Getting back to the misterious man with her mother, he seems to be the Emperor of another Country, who's harem happens to be empty. The man is obsessed with FL's mother. Is is quite unrealistic that a child and her mother would be put on that official/unofficial position to watch a border on behalf of the emperor because it was agreed between 3 kingdoms that none of them would leave an army there. However, this is the premise of this novel and the reason why FL becomes so powerful with so many organizations and enterprises under her sleeve. Spoiler: Concubine Shu She is the FL's paternal aunt. She hates FL's mother because she knows/believes the Emperor only loves her, and also because she prefered Song Mei to be her brother's main wife from the beginning. She has a son: The Second Prince, who isn't as ambitious as she'd like, and she tries to push him to compete for the throne. Spoiler: the ex-fiancée He has his own bitter circumstances. In one hand, his mother was an Imperial Princess that was played by her own husband, so he is bitter and has the right to be with his own father. On the other, he is no better, as he raises a beauty at his home with the excuse she saved him when he went to the North (close to where FL has been), and he gets annoyed with the FL for sheltering his illegitimate step-brother, so he is the first to disregard her and claim the engagement was a joke from their mothers... only to try to take it back after he sees her and gets to know she's so flawless... while still holding that other beauty. Funniest thing is, this beauty is only being pampered because the ex thinks she saved him, but the storytelling is hinting hard at the fact it was the FL who saved him and did all the things this beauty is claiming (painting and calligraphy), but he just doesn't know because he didn't got to see her face back then. LOL. When everything gets revealed to him is too late. Not only FL doesn't care about him, the beauty he mistook as his savior happens to be the sister of a Prince (it seems they're children of an elder Prince) but he's done with her. However, the Empress Dowager decides to change the bestowed marriage the Emperor gave them as a side-wife to be the main one. The ex just doesn't attend his own wedding night, this girl wanted to drug him to do the deed (again, they already fall into an aphrodisiac scheme before) but she ends up doing it with the father-in-law, that Marquees that hid his concubine and children to marry the Princess. This novel has a lot of messed-up relationships. Spoiler: the ex' father, the Marquees The man is quite disgusting. He didn't hesistate to hide his concubine and children from the Princess, when the marriage was proposed, to climb on the social ladder. Not only he married to the Imperial family, he was also made a Marquees, and when the Princess found out he had a woman and children hidden back at his ancestral home, the man never appologized and even told her she was cruel for not tolerate other people. Spoiler: the ex' step-brother he isn't a bad guy, and he is pitiful so is her mother to some extent... as the woman was the one to trick the Princess into finding out their existence only so she could also be admitted into her household and climb that social ladder. The son wasn't happy about his mother's actions, but later he was also quite bitter at the fact she ended up committing suicide... probably because the Princess didn't want to admit them, or maybe because the father made her believe so. He ends up going to the FL's supervised army, when FL finds out is already too late, so she decides she doesn't need to hand him to the fiancée, as the step-brother has chosen to drop his background to find his own future. Spoiler: Enemies FL has quite a few enemies, but this bit is for the non-romance-involved. First, the concubine from her father thinks she can supress her, but that was solved quickly. It is unlike other novels, despite there's one I've read when the FL returns to her family's manor and isn't given the proper welcome treatment she also decides she'll stay with her maternal family until they prepare things according to her status. Only that in this novel, FL never enters the mansion fully, she just stays with her maternal family, who happens to be a Duchy (higher status), while pressuring her father to kick out the concubine and shu daughter from her mother's yard. Her mother's yard was a private property she bought before marriage and annexed to the Prime Minister's (her husband's) manor, so they shamelessly thought they could occupy it and even steal her dowry items and shops, properties, etc. The concubine is out to get her, but she's a clown. Probably her biggest card is trying to prove she is behind FL's mother's disappearance. Also, it seems this concubine has an unclear relationship with the fourth Uncle from her husband, aka FL's father. It is heavily hinted the son FL's father prides on and the reason why she gets raised as a flat/secondary wife to become legitimate, is in fact the son of this Fourth Uncle who, in turn, is the person in charge of the bussiness of this concubine, the family and everything they stole from FL's dowry. Second, there's Concubine Shu, who hates her too, and tries to supress her in the Palace's visits and events, but the FL is so OP she never bends, she even dares to attack her, and gets unharmed because the Emperor favors her as one of his best supports. Then, there's the Empress Dowager. She is wary of her, for her power and her charisma. There are also enemies that are probably targetting her because she is sheltering a Prince from another country whose uncle usurped the throne. Just on chapter 40-something, on the Imperial Hunt, she gets tricked into the forest (looking for this Prince she's sheltering) and there are so many people trying to kill her and the Crown Prince, it's crazy! Spoiler: Romance & Rivals The ML is clearly the Crown Prince. Your usual cold-hearted ML that doesn't approach women. The way he falls for her is believeable only partially. He is wary of her, her misteries (enterprises & such), her power... and the Emperor seems to want to match-make them two, but the CP is not fully on the Emperor's side, even though he seems to be supporting him as the heir. It can be said she gradually catches his attention, and it also seems there's some past interactions she's forgotten, from when they were children, and even a rescue (like it happened with the ex)... so he starts being unable to be reminded of her, then they get caught up together in this multiple assassins' assassination attempt and things just ESCALATE, unlike any other novel I've read. They have to jump from a cliff to a lake/river, and FL has past trauma with water-drowning so, despite she got training to be able to swim and never again get through the same situation, CP has to help her move and even has to give her air, but they both get entangled in the kiss to pass air and after they reach out the surface inside a cave, they have simply broken almost all boundaries. She undresses to dry her clothes, he gets ar/oused, she helps him clean a poisoned arrow wound, and even hugh so she doesn't get cold. Later, afer they're rescued (and the ex is there by then), he simply tells her he will protect her reputation and make her Crown Princess. FL cracks up laughing, saying she doesn't need it but CP replies she must take responsability for his own reputation, so she agress quickly. Then they return on the same carriage and make out inside... like, she even gets on top! No shyness anywhere! After a few entanglements, turns out FL is actually thinking she's playing the CP, because she has no intention to stay in the capital after she's done with whatever plans she has... she is only taking advantage of the fact the CP is attractive to her in many ways... but she almost got to sleep with him and realized she's catching the feels... FL tries to distance herself a couple of times, but she can't help it, they're both attracted to each other and they don't shame away, the make out and more many times, even start cohabitating way before the engagement is sealed... and after the engagement is sealed, it is implied that they finalize the deed, they don't even plan to prevent a pregnancy despite the wedding won't happen until several months later! This novel is filled with this kind of behavior. The CP has two girls after him. One is the sister of his study companion, she is quite full of herself and insistent, despite she has been turned down many times, and her brother has been also warned she should stop and behave. She thinks she will have the change to enter his mansion, even if it is as a concubine, on the premise there'll be a draft or something, but when FL appears in the Capital (girl isn't stupid), she feels threatened... so she tries to get at her anyway she can (she is the one seeking for the Empress to kill her, after it is obvious they became close/an item). The other girl is less insistent, but as delusional, thinking the CP can fall for her. On her part, there's the ex who thinks the marriage could still happen... LOL and the Second Prince (who is also her cousin) who sees the reality of her status as a good match, and tries to get close to her... but CP just comes in between pretty fast, hahaha. Spoiler: The Palace The Empress Dowager used to be so in love with her husband, despite she never had children, but it seems a Concubine Li got in between in the later half of her married life, so she forced the woman to be buried alive when her Emperor husband died and imprisoned her son, Prince Ning. That's the reason why Prince Ning wants to get rid of the Emperor. The Empress decided to retire to a buddist hall when her sister took advantage of her second pregnancy to climb the dragon bed and get pregnant... only to miscarriage presumably in hands of the Empress. Consort Xian is the one ruling the harem on her stead, and raising the Empress' children, but both the CP and the First Princess aren't close to their aunt, because they know more or less what happened... that their mother's family was too greedy so they pushed their aunt to the Emperor's bed, causing the Empress to fall out with them all. Spoiler: more on the mother In Chapter 126, she meets FL's father for the first time after returning, and she confronts him for all the things he did to her and FL: This pretty much sums up what FL's did wrong, what his concubine and his illegitimate daughter also did that wasn't appropiate, and why they all have ended this badly. Stupid man still has hopes he can bring FL's mother back home, after he was forced by FL to hand in the separation papers.

Do you have more spoilers pls? So the scum father still tries to pester the mom? Who’s the mysterious man that’s with the mom? Do they marry, does mom become empress in the other country? What’s the scum father’s reaction to this? Also, what happens to the love rivals from ML & FL?
So far, what I remember: Spoiler: The mom The father always thought the mom was dead so, when she reappears, he first is surprised but also he takes for granted the fact she won't ask back for all her things and she will be back to him... however, the mother has this man who's obsessed with her, who happens to be a neigbouring country's emperor and she does end up marrying him and becoming empress there. Don't remember much about the love rivals, sorry.
I've just recently discovered this novel and fell in love with it!!! Love the plot and characters so far... Love that FL's character is so bold towards the ML especially during their intimate moments. she just seizes the day and not the shy-type FL that we commonly know.
