They (finction authors in general, not just the Japanese) have been doing bad/toxic romance for decades, all that has changed is how the part that makes it bad is expressed.

 

Yea the toxic part has been here for so longgg, but for me its weird how obsession has become normal or somewhat wanted in stories or the fact that there are more yandere characters. But i guess thats just me, i don't want to to jugde because everyone can read whatever they want or whatever it makes them happy.

 

At least there's a warning label for entertaining toxic romances in Asian fiction ("yandere") lol.
Western romance novels dont even have a word to seperate that out and like to pretend their dangerous (potentially homicidal) stalkers are just normal teen romance stuff
