I know how you feel! I finally gave it a shot and I love it! I think the first romance is more of a tool to drive the MC forward. What he loved from her is Piaoxiang's intense dedication to her craft (which she mentions) and I mean, she's beautiful too. Our MC is quite decisive and so he proposed right away~ More people should read this!
Actually rather than decisive I feel like he's kinda reckless and was infatuated at that time but eeh~ I never fall in love so idk lol The enemy so OP
Thanks for the love, all! Chapters 28-30 were really fun to translate, watching Jiang Zhe and Li Zhi build up to the point where they realized that they needed each other and were interdependent. Chapter 1 of Volume 2 made me feel like I was translating a wuxia novel, lol. As for Jiang Zhe's love for Liu Piaoxiang, it originally starts out as infatuation, but it grew into something more when the two realized that they belonged together. While it was short, and maybe did feel somewhat rushed, the relationship between the two was beautiful, especially when both parties connected with the other and were entering into the relationship willingly. That it ended in tragedy (unfortunately) was to be expected. Jiang Zhe needed a reason to get involved in the dangerous world of schemes, manipulations, and shenanigans of an imperial court. He also needed an objective to focus his talents, when he otherwise would have frittered it away living a life of a recluse or a wanderer.

Speaking of which, have you read/watch Nirvana in Fire? It has a similar plot with very smart and cunning male leads! At this point, if someone likes one or the other, I would recommend the one they are missing.

Danke schoen to both of you! I've read the original version of Nirvana in Fire and watched the TV series with Hu Ge. I'm a big fan! Don't worry, Li Shun/Xiaoshunzi is a major character. He is Jiang Zhe's closest and most important confidante, and plays a major role in Jiang Zhe's plans. As they both have said in the story, they're basically brothers even though they aren't blood related. And from the prologue, we can see that Xiaoshunzi survives the entire story. I'm going to be doing an AMA on GravityTales's Discord Server at 9:00PM EST, coinciding with the release of Volume 2, Chapter 3.
Darn, when Suiyun's brain start pondering them plans, I just can't wait for next chapter to come out and reveal what kind of machinery he'll unleash next. I'm understanding we're following a re-telling of Suiyun's life from a biography ? I guess we can already be sure our MC won't die anytime soon.
