Discussion The greatest video game music of all time

tl;dr backstory: I've just been arguing with somebody who claims that his chosen music is and I quote "surely in the top 100 of best video game songs of all time, and that's a fact." and "if you do not appreciate music like this or [series] music then you do not know video game musics AT ALL." - A very tall claim to be sure, especially for a track and series I feel is merely 'decent' for music at best.

I'm not going to say what their music is or what my fave is in the interests of fairness, but I do want to see if either get mentioned by any one of you as their pick for "best". Feel free to PM me to ask for my favourite.

So here is the deal: I want all of you to post your favourite video game music tracks from any video game, that you think qualifies as the "greatest of all time".
Pick "the best" as you would rate it by these three criteria:
A: Makes you feel something - Happy? Sad? Chills up your spine? It all counts.
B: Memorable - A great song should be easy to remember and perhaps even catchy.
C: Makes you want to play the game - Should be pretty self-explanatory.

RULES:
1: ONE YOUTUBE VIDEO / ENTRY PER POST MAXIMUM
2: VIDEO GAME MUSIC ONLY - no orchestral remasters or whatever else. The track must have appeared 'as is' in a video game to qualify. Extended versions are acceptable, as long as they're otherwise unchanged.
3: Please quickly skim the thread to make sure nobody else has posted it first, duplicate entries will be ignored.
3: Like the music? Leave a vote for it on that post in the form of a like.
4: Do not like a post containing a video game music track if you did not like the music enough to want to vote for it.
5: Please keep most discussion out of your video game music entry posts, except if you want to say a few words about it.
6: Please try to keep the thread tidy, keep multiple discussion posts to a single post if possible.
7: Please don't directly quote somebody else's music track in your post, to prevent confusion. Remove the video from the quote.

Once there have been enough entries and enough time has passed (around 100+ and a week or more), I will count up the votes on all the entries and put the top 10 (or so) through to a final voting round by way of a poll in new thread. The winner of that poll will be crowned the best one of all.

This is my only entry, in the interests of fairness. It's a "top #10" for me, but not my number #1 favourite. Still great through.

Personal favorite Terrans

It isn't about nostalgia but about appreciation about the orchestra, it totally fits the mood of the terran race and gives you goosebumps to attack your enemies the moment it drops the bomb in the music, besides is not a minute loop like many others but over 4 minutes of music which each part diferent and expressing a diferent feeling.
The start is for the preparations, the middle is the moment you sent your units and the final to relax and think again either if you win or lose the battle.
Absolute perfection.

Ar Tonelico games were made for music...or the music was made for the games...either way they are good

Idk which one to choose so I will just post this.

 

Final fantasy will probably be the biggest feature in this game, Nobou has the ability to make you feel desolate and empty, or pysched up ready for battle, with everything on the line.

However I can't choose between these two.


Emotions, this song is beautiful because at the start, the main character is struggling after find out he's just a vessel.(Sorry spoiler)
He staggers alone, fighting needlessly by himself, and as his friends come to aid him, the music grows more vibrant and stronger, as more instruments are added. Making the title truly suited to the song.


And of course


This song reminds me of those we've lost. My mom, (who has never played a game in her life) hates this song, because it makes her think of her brother that passed away. She'll listen to it all the way through, tears glistening thinking of her older brother.
To add further context, she doesn't even know the song is associated with a game character dying.

And yeah I posted the whole death scene..why because I'm cruel like that. Just think people, this is going to be in HD.

Bastion and Transistor, even the BGM songs are great to listen to on their own. Those fucking endings.
