I read somewhere it was actually because they ostracize the sick person and left him to die. However they are also afraid of him being a vengeful spirit that would hunt the family, so they marry him to some poor girl that was bought with money.

His mother gave 'a bowl of sober soup' which turns out to be poison, and his brother had nearly stabbed into his heart (the wound has healed but he was still hurting--- his heart). He's still alive because (1) his friend gifted him a spiritual pill, (2) he trained martial art and (3) his bodyguards had sacrificed their live to protect him. That night became a bloody stormy night. Now he just wants to live out the rest of his life quietly in the mountain village, his body still have remnants of poison, so he supposedly won't live long. Hubby started having regrets and will to live when he thought of his wife (MC) who had to work hard to take care of him... The story is rather fast paced and the chapters are long. I've only read 10+ chapter only, and all these details are explained lol. MC only has vague flashback of original body's identity. She seems to be some young miss of influential family, but she's not interested to find out! Haha Oh dear I can't get enough of MC×Hubby fluffy and cute arguments--- which always ends up hubby became speechless or blushed.
I really appreciate the translator's choice of words for the title, haha. Like a typical Chinese novel with a female MC, the MC is identified by her husband, sigh... Like, she's the MC, why can't she feature in the title as something more than someone's wife. The original title is The sickly lord's wife. Where lord means more like husband, cause you know, the husband is the lord and the wife serves him. So seeing the title made me do a double-take, then check the original, and sure enough... But I do like the change for once.
The MC for her first earnings sells some recipes to a restaurant and then buys a quilt so that both the husband and wife can have their own quilts.
I'm reading ch 41 now, where MC is busy preparing her future connection & investment. Spoiler: MC & ML becomes real couple ML's current body contains cold poison, so he can't do snu snu. ML-MC relation were initially the kind of "I respect u u respect me, u do your thing I do mine." ML was very touched and grateful for meeting someone who honestly cared for him at his most peril and shameful time. There's this one time this scum woman who used aphrodisiac incense to entice ML, but in the end ML's poison ended getting agitated, he mistakenly roared at MC--- kinda like "Slut, GTFO!" MC was really really hurt by his words, but later she was panicking when she noticed ML body was cold. She used up almost all her savings to call and buy medicine to control the poison. ML can live up to 2-3 years. Since then MC worked harder to find money for his medicine. When ML woke up, he felt his eyes redden & teary when he sees the weary MC by his bed. ML kinda slip his tongue and MC was reminded of the time when he called her a slut, and she turned around running out. ML panicked, ran after, tightly hugging her waist from behind. MC was wriggling & struggling... ML suddenly said sorry which she was rather shock for him to lower his ego and said sorry. She noticed ML's little brother reaction and she bashfully grew limp. ML quickly confessed every minutes & details of what happened. MC silently calculated her revenge plan. ML inwardly swore he'll do his best & treasure her. Spoiler: Around ch 30+ ML had second outbreak in sickness, and after ML finally started class, there's this Zhao couple and elders gathering at MC house. The elders wanted to take away MC's tofu management, the couple wants to 'steal' away her money & her house --- MC was framed for being not virtuous for poisoning the Zhao couple and bringing shame for going out and working. Ends up with exposing Zhao couple's stupid plans on stealing MC's meat (meat are very expensive and those couple are known for lazy and dirty) thus getting kicked out from village and beaten. Elder Wang and Elder Li wanted to have MC's recipe with excuse of letting them see it to 'check' on any faults, their real motives are to obtain riches and 'help build up the village'. The village people are mostly from Wang clan family, so Elder Second Wang was greedy to raise his clan people, and that Zhao lady was from Wang clan, so he shielded the stupid couple. Elder Fifth Fang also wants to take away MC's money everything before they sell MC as slave, since his foolish daughter (the jealous waste) was infatuated with ML --- she tried drugging ML, causing ML to use his inner force to stop the drug, his cold poison to break out. While everyone was resolute on punishing MC, ML returned from class and coldly send them away --- saying MC's actions behaviour are for him to judge, no need for outsiders to interfere.
