Not really... we get to see a bit of the ML's family as he takes up the clan leader position but they have no say in the marriage. ML asks Emperor for MC's hand in public and the Emperor is forced to agree due to public opinion.
I had left off at the scene where MC and ML get separated, and then MC ends up returning to her family herself along with ML's guards. How did her family treat her? Did she gain control of the family with her own power? And do you know how did she reunite with ML? Thanks for the spoilers!
MC's family tries to take advantage thinking that she is a timid, naive young girl who can be easily bullied. First they try to imply that she's an impostor and after she shoots that down, they try to ruin her by getting a mob of commoners to surround her carriage and insult her. If she is touched by one of the commoners, it can be considered that she is not chaste and they can enact family law and take over her property. She avoids that by killing the instigators in the crowd. Because she killed commoners in the capital, the Emperor summons her to be punished. She escapes by claiming that she was afraid that the mob was about to riot and create a law and order issue at the Emperor's feet. The Emperor confines her to her house for 7 days and fines her 3 years' income. MC's relatives then come to try and "persuade" her to hand over control to them again. They especially don't want her to pay the fine because they've treated MC's money as their own and they want to save "their" money. MC shuts them down and gets rid of them. After that, they leave and haven't come back into the picture yet. ML comes to visit her at night a while after she returns to the capital and they reunite.
Between Chapter 210 - 213. They get married for the second time with full ceremony in front of the world and afterwards it's snu snu time.
Just finished reading this and somehow I feel unsatisfied The ending was very rushed and abrupt. We just get a TLDR of events between when the ML, MC and the Ning and Su families leave the capital to when they have children. Just a sentence that the Emperor died and there was a prince who was crowned Emperor and that The Ning and Su families had declared independence and set up their own countries. It ends when the MC gives birth rather abruptly. A few extra chapters would have been nice to flesh out and wrap up the whole thing nicely. For now it feels like the author got bored and just wanted to end it somehow. Sad way to end a very promising CN... Sigh.... And they never wrapped up loose threads like the MC's quasi adopted brother whom she saved from being autistic. Positives are that the ML never looks at any other woman and after the MC was saddened due to the scheming of one of the concubines that the Emperor had forced upon him, he expels them all and orders his guards to throw any woman who approaches within 3 ft of his person into the lotus pond.
In the early chapters, MC got quite a lot of trouble. there's a villager named Li Kashi (?), he's a pervert and useless person, he's interested in MC bcs she's beautiful and all. One day, MC was alone at home (ML was still sick after drugged, or maybe he was teaching the village's kid? not sure where he ia), and that Li guy barged in. He come to tell MC that once ML died she will be sold as slave, and offer to take her as his concubine bcs being sold as slave is much worse right, yea as if, that Li guy is a scumbag, he keep trying to make moves on MC and rape her(?) But MC hold her ground and keep saying ML will be ok in few days and he better get lost! The situation got worse bcs her home is quite far away from other houses, so it's dangerous. Thankfully before anything happen Su Qi hidden bodyguard help her and beat up that Li guy. Turns out the bodyguard was stationed for MC safety by Su Qi for few days already. btw ML was previously drugged by one of Fang madam, she tried to get her daughter force ML and take her as concubine, ML realized he was drugged and his condition get worse til he almost died (bcs he was poisoned too before and pretty much lose his martial arts) but he managed to shoo the Fang girl. MC come home after her business translation, try to serve him tea but was fiercely rejected by ML, she was dissapointed and hurt not noticing ML is dying til ML student come to their house and said something that make MC notice something is weird with ML. She come back to their house and ML is very sick, search for doctor, got medicine to stall his condition but very expensive, MC decided to buy bcs she can think way to get money later as ML health is the most important things bcs if ge died, she will be sold as slave.
The extras seemed to be about Su Qi (2ML) and how he finally falls out of love with MC. Happens before the MC gives birth I think. Are there extras other than that?
ML's grandmother hates MC because she wanted ML to marry someone from her own maternal family instead (I think. MTL misunderstandings can happen). So when ML is set on marrying MC, she gets a few concubines from the Yuwen family for him despite the Yuwen family siding with the Emperor and trying to undermine the Ning family.
what does ml think about his family? (he probably hates his mom and step bro) ...and what happened to the grandma later ? ....also what did he do with those concubines? ...and do we see the girl grandma wanted him to marry?
ML dislikes his step mom and step bro after their tricks but he doesn't bother with them because he can't kill his own brother. His father sends the stepmom to a monastery and the brother was put into his place. ML and his father get on well and he used to be close to his grandmother because she took care of him as a child. But the grandmother gets too partial to her maiden family, the Yuwen family, and lets them get away with a lot of things. ML and his father try telling her what they're doing and how they're undermining the Ning family but grandmother is caught up in the past. The Yuwen family people had tried to steal the Ning family master seal, sexually harass the wives and daughters of the Ning family and had used the Ning family's name to commit many atrocities blaming the Nings. Despite knowing all this, the grandmother still tries to protect the Yuwen family and make some of their daughters concubines for ML. So, ML loses his respect for grandmother slowly on knowing this. Later, grandma dies during the Ning family's migration away from the capital (This is mentioned in passing in the final chapter. Literally 1 sentence!). She doesn't give up on supporting the Yuwen family till the end. The concubines are sent back to their families after one of them schemes to make it look to the MC like she slept with ML (with the help of the grandmother). Initially, the ones sent by the Emperor weren't sent back because MC was afraid that this would give the Emperor an opportunity to move against the Ning family. Later, once the preparations were made for the migration, ML kicked them out unceremoniously. Emperor and grandmother were very angry at this. In the Emperor's case, because this was looking down on the favour that he had bestowed and in grandmother's case because she had selected women from the Yuwen family and she was afraid that the Yuwen family would have no support from Ning family later. There's no specific girl that grandma wanted ML to marry. It's just that grandma wants some woman from Yuwen family in ML's bed so that ML, as the head of Ning family, will support Yuwen family even after the grandma passes away.
Nah... it wasn't mentioned. It literally took 2 chapters for MC's pregnancy to be discovered, the concubines to get kicked out, the Ning family to migrate and declare independence to become the kings of the region they moved to and MC to give birth. No detail at all! So goddamn frustrating because I feel like I went through chapters of tribulations for MC and ML but when it got to the good part, there's 2 chapters. 20 more chapters would have been about right to end this. OK.... I promise this is the last rant about how frustrated I am with the abrupt ending of this CN. Pinky promise.

MC sees the concubine leaving the ML's study in a disheveled condition. The MC has flashbacks of how the ML reflexively saved the concubine from being splashed with soup during an incident earlier and other such incidents like the ML drinking soup delivered by the concubine and excusing it saying that it was sent by the grandmother. ML was in a meeting elsewhere with the family elders at the time that the concubine came out of the study but MC doesn't know that. She thinks that ML has cheated on her with the concubine because noone can be allowed into the study without ML's permission and he is very particular about who enters it. In reality, the concubine and the grandmother schemed together to make the MC think that ML had slept with the concubine so that she would react badly and create a gap with the ML.
