The parents are definitely to blame. The father decided that this choice they went with would have been the best financially with his company and daughters marriage. Looking back at it all one thinks just telling the truth would have spared everyone. Actually it would have made them look like outstanding citizens especially when they kept and supported both daughters and by helping the grandma with her care - which they did!
