Every one likes this novel. Why? What should I expect? Is there romance? I don't mind if there's none at all.
No romance. People like it because you have a smart MC who has to use his brain in order to survive all the plots of people with vastly more power than him. Also the author does an excellent job of describing his world and setting and has very diverse characters. Some people have an issue with the prose in the beginning, but you get used to it. And what's amazing for a Chinese web novel is there is little to no word padding and wasted scenes.
Well honestly it's just cultivation power concepts (using mystical powers instead of KI and Dantians and such) thrown together with Cthulhu Mythos by HP Lovecraft set in a Victorian England type setting. Honestly seen plenty of published English novels use similar concepts. This one just puts it together extremely well.
I'm quite amazed that people talk a lot of HP Lovecraft's influence in LOM without ever saying anything about SCP when it has, IMO, equal or more influence in LOM.

Just finished binge reading. It's indeed well organized and I understand why people praise it so much. Imma have to put it in My category for SCOG which was great except for the mcs usually personality which although annoying at times , can't fully degrade the novel as a whole. The thing with Lord of Mysteries is that it's a unique genre, and it does well within it's genre, more than well actually. It's definitely among top tier. The only criticism I can offer would be from the perspective of another genre so it's not really valid. For example, he was basically a puppet of sorts instead of the usual unrelated lucky encounters other mcs have (Xianixia, Xuanhuan etc.) So from that perspective his series of convenient coincidences and the basis of his abilities would have been seriously criticized IF this was that sort of novel. However, the title says it all. The basis of this genre and story is mystery which was sufficiently and spectacularly developed throughout the story. So again. Don't read this unless you want a genuine mystery novel with a mix of all sorts of genres to a LESSER extent. Read this like a mystery novel and pay attention to EVERY detail. This isn't a wish fulfillment or slice of life novel where the mc takes breaks from the main plot at times. The plot here and each chapter is meaningful and consistent.
So the animation is in the works, let's just pray to the Evernight that there would be no censorship since LotM is R-18 and China seems like it does not want anything to do with R-18 stuff when it comes to it.
I don't remember any descriptive scenes. they use sex as a way to grow stronger, yes but the author left out the dirty details during the act.
I remember Klein using his divination to see how the person died then the scene shown was death by Snu-snu.
