This novel was suggested by @dustmite ! <3 芙爱维尔海的人鱼 It's about a young merman searching for his own sea, and comes to a sea occupied by another merman everything is from the perspective of a human mermaid/merfolk researcher. So they're just supporting the mermen interaction on the sidelines The young merman was given the name Dylan by the researchers, and the MC (researcher) is like a father to him ....imagine his heartbreak when his son finally got a boyfriend in the end Funny fact: Dylan was originally from Single Sea, and then the sea he migrated to was called Forever Sea Well the researchers communicate to merfolks with a translation machine. They spent a lot of years figuring out the language. It's not perfect , they also try to teach hand signals for better communication Well technically Dylan is the MC and the other merman is the ML pokes Spoiler pokes @scriptor @winter-t @LaDyViL @kiara8 @readerz @krrizis @Kittsune @Shem @Toyo @Hotato @Novel otaku desu @Matsurika @kly @sinyueliang @SnowTime @Summer @ludagad @Luen @DarkBlue @Yuslia @clear @dustmite @smr85 @lalalyly @Cohran @MoMoePom @azure_sea @Kosu @Misaki Yata @Haigi @XD @PKitty @insteadofdeath @Victuuri @itikky @mereumsama @iampsyx @missycin @vsukio @Ami @Skyelyne @cici @Shizuka15 @kumquatsjingleheimer @Nokiyoh @K-ralara @blaze27 @dontwanttotell @Miri-Bell @Ezralva @DJdragone @Sakhyu @leva @CrazedCookies @Regalia1896 @Shiina @Shizuka Mikki @maya_sov @Land of The Fallen @Corensi @leedalys @pcheshire @ChuChi @Loriel @byebye @Hatchy @Neelambori @Ami @ShenHua @LavenderBlizzard @HesheFell @Kailyria20 @Ease @ferrelrose @cheerydandan @Vi.M @Raizendeville @kleepart @Rilise @purple_mangosteen @aNonYm0U5 @Li yue @xiin @Rabbitanairy @foxymirage @NerdExpress @Nokita @LiYao @Boinkers @Khysylia @UpInTheAir @Food food @Ashie @Leir @Lisstr @blues86 @rainbowturtle
can the mermen take human form after they leave the water? .... does the mc see the interaction between the couple (like their flirting?) ....also...can they have children?
No, the mermen are the traditional kind of mermen. The merfolk lore in this story is that usually at a young age, the young mermen are exiled by the mother to find another home (territory) for themselves. When mermaids are grown up, they swim sea to sea for their match, the couple courts, and then the mermaid leaves the merman behind for the next sea. It's all explained in the novel. The merfolk flirt in their own ways, much like birds and fishes, such as giving seashells and fish for gifts, allowing them to stay in their territory, going hunting together, etc. Merman and mermaid, yes. Mermen, no.
Yep! The ML has an icy queen persona and believes he is some almighty presence., but really he's just an awkward fish who doesn't have much experience with love (and the researchers later figures out that ML was crushing hard before Dylan the merman does.) ML manages to offend Dylan in their first meeting, and as Dylan is complaining to the researcher (MC), ML is secretly listening in from far away (merfolk have exceptionally good hearing). When the researcher asks if Dylan would forgive ML if he gave him tuna fish (Dylan's favorite food), ML hears this and on the very next day, a massive tuna that was slightly battered showed up in Dylan's territory. Dylan has his hunches about where it came from, and the researcher figures out that ML was listening. There are also a couple of other cute scenes, but this is one of them at the start.
They don't really care much about researchers. The researchers are just there to make merfolk observations and tries not to interfere with merfolk life. ML hates humans so he doesn't get along well with the researchers and uses his ultrasonic? voice to get all the seagulls to shit all over the research station on the island. This behavior gradually changes when he sees Dylan getting along well with the researchers.
do the researchers ship the 2 merman together or try to get them together? ...how many chaps does it have?
As scientists/researchers they do not interfere with the mermen unless necessary, such as providing medical treatment and items they request. They do ship them on the sidelines and try to figure out where the relationship is heading. Main story has 32 chapters and extras are 22 chapters from perspective of ML where you'll see all his frustration with the love life.
wow this is probably the first(?) danmei with narrated from an outsider. Refreshing. Seems super cute tho, especially when it's narrated by an "observer". So I'm guessing there's no "cough" scenes?
There's a danmei I read once that was told from a female POV. It was a tragedy though, with one of the characters as a ghost (the narrator is a ghost too) that collects power to cast a powerful spell to make the lover he left behind in death forget him. I cried. Also, raws?
