Rowena’s friend who uses her name as courtisan is Carol, right? So after 5 years separation & he rekindles his entanglement (by force) with Rowena, he can see the dots between weird events happened, like the disappearance of Headmaid Gertrude (who gets killed by Baron Sussex, one of Killian’s vessels) & then he wants to know more about the truth. So he ordered his subordinates to investigate about a courtisan named Rowena Philone (yeah we have a smart ass ML here). He invites Rowena to an old house that Rowena knows and finds Carol bounded to a chair with her mouth gagged. Rowena chooses to let her go but she fainted while trying to untie Carol. Her hands are trembling, she fainted due to emotions surge. Killian gets Rowena & orders his men to cut Carol’s tongue with scissors. Later, Melissa tells Rowena that Killian let Carol go without hinting what really happens. Second ML’s name is Cedric. After Rowena & Damian run away by faking their death on that same island, they went to Killian’s dead fiancée’s aunt, Lauren. Cos Rowena resembles Angela (the dead fiancée?) so much, Lauren accepts & treats them well. Cedric is her younger brother. He’s an academician, a genius who has bright & curious character. Truthfully I’m kinda have mixed feelings for Cedric. He knows from the beginning that it’s Rowena (she’s using a pseudonym, Diana), mistress of Killian Devonshire. He talks to her, plays with Damian, and feels attracted to Rowena (who’s not? I mean she’s described as a beauty). At first, Rowena says that it feels like having two children at home Later, when they get married (they need a certain drugs for Lauren’s disease that only avail in Esselwood. But as a foreigner, Cedric will get suspected if he enters the country so he needs to marry Rowena to naturalize), he says that he knows Rowena doesn’t love him yet as opposite sex but he will try & treat her well. Later, the marriage will get nullified as Cedric’s name is on the list of ship explosion victimes. The fact is Cedric & Damian are safe cos they’re not boarded on that ship. That’s a scheme done by Baron Sussex’s illegitimate son named Tom & a girl who likes Killian (oh yeah please take him away, gurl) named Cecilia. I couldn’t find Cecilia end tho, yet.
So he only investigated it after 5 years after Rowena disappearance? Great, after treating her like sex worker for if I'm not mistaken 3 years maybe, that's make it 8 years before the realization hit huh? Yeah, what a Smartass ML we got here

Spoiler: Damian & Ending Physically, Damian is Killian’s look alike, jet black hair & blue eyes. But he has Rowena’s small forehead. He got sick with any kind of illness since he was born but he’s such a mature kid among his peers & can’t let go of his mom when they’re alone. Damian felt attracted to Killian since their first encounter even tho Killian wore hat until the brim of his face so Damian couldn’t see his face clearly. At some point, not too long after they hung out together for a while, Damian somewhat knew that this man was similar with him, esp his hair & eyes. Damian was such a perceptive kid, no one told him that it was his dad tho. For Damian, twas different feelings when he was with Killian & Cedric. Cedric was more like a big brother for him & he called Cedric as hyung. Damian loved animals. Killian got him a big dog named Loco/Roco to protect Damian. There was an incident when Damian first met Killian at the park. A huge dog suddenly ran toward Damian & Killian protected him sacrificing his left arm (it was still intact, the dog just bit it badly ). That’s why Killian gave him a dog. After chapter 98 that’s previously spoiled, Rowena was going crazy. She was kinda unconscious due to heavy stress. She almost drowned at the port, waiting & looking for Damian who she thought boarded at the blown ship with Cedric (while in fact they were not). Killian saved her & she was the ghost who roamed around Ludeville mansion. She also strangled Killian’s neck but when she was aware of what she has done, she was just screaming all night & Killian hugged her saying you’re not crazy, I’m the bad one. Killian sent Zenoch to where Damian was (someone locked him up) and arranged a meeting with Rowena. Hairdresser came & took care of Rowena & put her in a yellow dress then carriage brought her to a house. There, there were only Rowena & Killian. Killian made her tea, served him before he let her meet Damian. Tomorrow, before Rowena & Damian & Cedric boarded into a train, Killian put a paternity acknowledgement letter of Damian to Rowena’s pocket. Along with that letter was land, island, & property certificate for them too. Baron Sussex, the mastermind who drove Rowena out in the past, was died in a suicidal fire. His illegitimate son, Tom, came to Ludeville to get his revenge. He worked with Cecilia, a spoiled girl who liked Killian, and tricked Rowena to think that Damian & Cedric boarded into the ship. After say goodbye to Rowena at train station, Killian went in a carriage to capture Tom. They got Tom who wore explosive gear around his body but Killian insisted to carry him in his carriage. Well you know the rest, the bomb was exploded but Killian was safe with his body still in a complete form. Rowena who discovered the paternity letter hopped off the train & together with Damian they waited for Killian to wake up. It took around a week until he conscious tho. A suspicious nurse tried to inject something to sleeping Killian but Rowena asking her out & suddenly the nurse pointed the syringe to her. Killian woke up at that time & shot her on her leg. When Killian asleep, Damian started calling him Dad & stayed at hospital with Rowena waiting for him. Even after Killian woke up, Damian wanted to stay with him cos he’s his dad & family should be together. Rowena who still couldn’t make peace with the past, left Killian & stayed with Lauren, Cedric’s sister. But still, Killian secretly went to meet Damian there for the last time. He went there to say goodbye to Rowena & Damian. Lauren who knew Rowena, urged her to go after Killian. It’s better than regretting things. So Rowena went to train station & bought third class passenger seat but entered the first class door instead (much like their first meeting?). Killian put her on his lap & Rowena told him what she wanted from him, “Love me, love my son, treat me like a queen.” “It’d be a little bit difficult cos I’ve no respect for the Queen.” “Instead, I’ll treat you as a goddess, as my religion except in bed.” For the epilogue, it’s Rowena & Killian’s wedding. Right after that train scene, Killian brought Rowena to his mansion and registered their wedding 10 days after. People there served Devonshire family for two-three generations so they can be trusted. Rowena invited her uncle Jeremy to come as witness too. During his stay at mansion, Jeremy was deliberately looked for Rowena when the atmosphere between her & Killian we’re getting funny (y’know what it means right). It turned out Jeremy was trying to distract Rowena from the wedding preparation. Killian was secretly invited Cedric, Lauren, Harriett & family & surprised Rowena with the ceremony. Later, they’ll have another ceremony filled with Killian’s foreigner guests. And for side story, twas about Damian’s school. Rowena wanted Damian to go to school to make friends & live among his peers while Killian thought it won’t be necessary cos friends will most likely betray him (like what happened to him in the past). He preferred Damian to have tutors at home then went to university after. Contrary to popular believe among typical MLs, Killian loved Damian not because he’s Rowena’s child but cos Damian is his child. After 5 years separation, the first one, he brought Rowena without seeing Damian’s face cos he thought he’s Rowena’s child with another man & Rowena didn’t tell Killian that Damian is his child. She didn’t believe that Killian was able to love Damian & she didn’t want Damian to be like Killian. Melissa, that maid who betrayed Rowena if you read earlier chapters, told Killian that Damian was his child. That night when Killian went to Damian’s room after he fell asleep, he felt a hole on his chest (I hope it’s littéral tho) filled by something warm. He fell in love with Damian at first sight & he’s such a good dad for Damian too. Both Killian & Cedric reprimanded Damian when he rebelled to his mom. After Killian scolded him cos Damian went against Rowena, he whispered that he loves him to Damian’s ear. During side story, Rowena went to a bookstore in a maid dress. A university student flirted with her. Turned out he was a tutor for Damian by Countess’ recommendation. When Rowena interviewing him, Killian came after went to business trip & brought her upstairs. Killian’s glance alone was enough to make that student gave up Rowena. The story concluded with Killian will buy school (by buying its shares?) so Damian can studying there but he’ll be able to come home when semester ended (or at every weekend cos that time student won’t be able to go home unless they finished their last year study).

Ugh, after everything that transpired, I could never bring myself to think like 'Uwu, this scene is so sweet', instead it left a bitter disgusting after taste in my mouth. It's beyond my understanding why she go back to him again, but I already gave up a long time ago to understand the brain (if there is any) of all these stupid FL. Thanks for the spoiler, there is no way I could sit around and read hundred chapter of harlequin novel.
The author really forced the ML-FL end here huh. I'm surprised people still tried to get them together despite every little shitshow ML has done. His crazy ass should have been left alone!
It’s kinda tricky question tbh. With Killian, I always think of an apology rather than love feeling, and I’m sure I’m not alone in this case . If you read recent translation when Killian came to look for Rowena, he called her his woman already. Many gestures that indicate his feeling for her was more than a mistress to play with then get rid of her. After their reunion, Killian will always sleep while hugging Rowena’s back, even on the train after chapter 21 took place. He picked Rowena from tea parties himself if it was too late, holding her hand in public (not in an escort way & it was some sort of controversial cos it was something that usually done to a legal wife). Killian even remembered what Rowena said at their first meeting on train that she wanted to eat oyster at the beach etc. He kept Rowena’s dress when she came to the capital for the first time to later re-enact their meetings in terms of courting her, he tried to woo her later after their second separation. Killian realized his feelings toward Rowena way later in the book actually. It happened after Rowena faking her death & Damian in that Lopes Island. At this time, there were one to two years gap to their next meeting. He ran frantically in search for Rowena when he heard her ship went missing (she went canoeing with Damian a day before their engagement in that island. This escape is planned by Jeremy, Rowena’s uncle, who was disguising himself as Damian’s tutor). Killian stayed for half a year there. It probably normal to say that he went mad. He built a mausoleum with Rowena’s face (or body) sculpted on top of it in Lopes Island. It was Devonshire family tomb though. He even carried along Rowena’s portrait wherever he goes. The portrait has her name as Duchess of Devonshire. Spoiler: Chapter 81 The first thing he did was open the window. The light was still on in the room through the window. Killian, who has habitually searching for a cigarette, put his hand down. Now it was time to cut it again (cos of Damian). Look at the window with the curtains hanging down, Rowena pulled the curtains up as if she had read his mind. I'm sorry, but don't you think the ML was basically a stalker? I'm getting "You" (the Netflix show) vibes from him. It is unsettling; it's far from romantic.
Killian was usually depicted as a snake, cold-blooded character, more with his low voice. It’s like the usual ML but in his case, he dealt with the dirty works directly. For example he met an information broker named Felix directly to investigate a courtisan with name of Rowena Philone (which was in fact Carol). It’s a work that usually distributed to his assistants or aides but many times he did it himself. It doesn’t give a « clean » image but rather he was more like underground boss. Well, he put his people around Rowena & Damian tho, to protect them (it was needed cos one time Damian suddenly ran to the forest following a dog but it turned out there was assassin aiming at him) and to inform him their movements. Even tho no clear phrase in the story, I believe Killian knew that Rowena was secretly married to Cedric (which later get annuled cos Cedric was on the list of ship blasting victims). He chose to keep his mouth shut & didnt confront Rowena directly. He was more or less like any other MLs we read so far. To say that he’s a stalker.. I don’t get that kind of vibe from him tbh but again I don’t watch that series yet And yeah about romantic feelings, I only hope the best for Rowena & Damian so not so much expectation for it. Rowena & Killian have come a long way, like 10 years since their first meeting. It’s like the love is there but how to make it works especially with their past (the abandonment part). It’s a love story, perhaps, but with deeper explanation about those two people.
I had low hopes for this story tbh but after reading through all the spoilers, I can't say that it doesn't have a satisfying ending. She didn't forgive him all of a sudden, it took a huge amount of time, they only got together properly after everything else a decade later. Also, she made sure to see his sincerity with her own eyes and didn't give in to him at any moment. She listened to her heart but made sure that he respected her at every turn. She held him accountable for his actions. And the train scene is kinda sweet tbh to me can't say I like the ml very much but these two have definitely come a long way
Seriously this novel is very trashy filled with abuse. Honestly what I hate the most is that it portrayed that infidelity is ok and it can have a happy ending. I mean WTH do we need this in the world right now. Is there a shortage of home wreckers. IDK it's worth anything she was abused beyond belief and he has no redeeming qualities.

I don’t know if he’s fully healed or not. During side stories, he was still in treatment and have to constantly put eye drops. Doctor said his chance was 50:50. Actually after the explosion that affecting his sight and fell into coma, he should have to undergo eye treatment ASAP but he postponed it due to events related to Rowena & Damian, sorry I kinda forget what that event was It was so close to the ending so perhaps their reconciliation thing

Now I have no problem not reading this, since, before your comment I was going through all the pages tearing my hair out because I couldn't find a single comment that was like yours and didn't actually tell authors how much they loved the ML, because the majority, as per usual, were simultaneously claiming that victims should stop 'letting' themselves be victimized as they were pushing the mainstream narrative which states only victims should be forced to solve a problem they didn't create. If I hadn't read a comment like yours I probably would have read this because I would be wondering why so many people are protesting in an unbelievable manner that they despise the ML.
Thanks so much for the spoilers, I read the translated chapters and I couldn't stop the urge to pull my hair out. I was going to continue reading if she ended up with the 2nd ML but nope, because why go to the 2nd ML when there's trash here? The extent to which the author tries to make the ML redeemable is just.. amazing. Anyways, this is just my opinion, I just didn't enjoy this story as much as the others and once again thank you for all the spoilers
