think the men in X-men as the man in mankind, its not like mankind only refers to the male gender humans lol
For 1. It was written in the 60s, women barely had rights back then. For 2, there was only 1 girl on the original team and 6 guys. Maybe majority wins in that case. I'm going to go with the fact that back in the 60s, political correctness wasn't really a thing, and it was a comic book so nobody cared. There was also no online forums for people to go rant and nitpick things, so truthfully the creators probably weren't even really thinking about it. It's also possible that 'men' back then could just have referred to a group of people, similar to the way the term 'guys' can refer to a group of men and women now-a-days. Language evolves and it pretty much means whatever the majority of people believe it to mean. Negro used to be the popularized term for black people, now the term 'black' is being replaced with african-american, which is soon being replaced by 'people of color'. PC is the kneejerk reaction people have these days, but I'm pretty sure people didn't nitpick back in the 60s. There weren't millions of people online just waiting to pounce on something in order to complain.
Not to mention X-Humans doesn't come off the tounge as well as X-Men, and doesn't carry the same ring to it.
It really isn't. I suppose we could go with X-Homo Sapiens but then again, no doubt that'd offend someone too.
( is a left/open parenthesis ) is a right/closing parenthesis The plural form of parenthesis is parentheses. Take that! -From grammar nazi 54427
Is X-Men sexist? Pleeeeease gimme a break with that small time pedestrian nonsense and look at some words that are REALLY sexist. Like the word "too". Yup according to the Huffington post the word "too" is an oppressive and abusive tool of the vile patriarchy. http://www.huffingtonpost.in/camero...that-cuts-women-down-every-day_b_8234202.html No this is not from the onion...
People will always be offended.....I remember there is this comic strip that only white squares with the caption . This is an example of a comic strip that doesn't offend anybody or something. Guess the comments contents?
Also a further point. The question regarding killing said woman by deadpool. If he kills her because she is a girl, he is (a malevolent)sexist. If he doesn't kill her because she is a woman, he is (a benevolent)sexist. If kills her because said person needs to die, then he's not sexist. If your action is determined because of someone's gender, then that makes you sexist. IE: If Hitler was a woman, it wouldn't make you sexist for wanting to kill her. Unless the reason you were killing her was because Hitler is a woman
Quote from wikipedia - x-men have been named after Professor Xavier. The name also linked to X-Gene, an unknown gene that causes the mutant evolution. While the Prof himself called his mutant student X-men for Ex-tra Powah!!!!
i dooooonnnttt get it?! is it only me that thought men is the plural form of people? am i getting stupid? am i missing something?
why not call it XXX women ...............................................................................................................
Lol it is not sexist.... It is just somethung that has been around for a while and as such the name is of that period.
All of you cisgendered bigots who are completely ignoring non binary genders make ashamed to be a part of nuf don't they deserve representation? Spoiler disclaimer: given that tone doesn't translate that well online be advised that this is exaggerated sarcasm, I don't actually think any of this stuff is bigoted
