I’m I the only one who’s become a bit impatient with this novel? Author has lost the frenetic pacing from the beginning, and some of the other charm (that are hard to define) We saw in earlier chapters... Hoping it gets better soon...

 

Yeah, the author used up most of his good ideas in the first arc. Second arc was passable, but this third one is lame.

I'm about 10 chapters behind because hopefully this arc will move on to something that's actually interesting and when that happens I'll binge through them quickly.

 

And here I thought he'd do something stupid like maxing out one of Claude's skills.

 

When is he gonna max out HIS skills?

1 handed tends to have better reach then a normal 2 handed blade like a longsword, because of how you can position your body, but if they are properly balance speed would not be much of an issue, since it is mostly from weight, and the weight difference is not much. though you have more force and better maneuvering/handling with a 2 handed blade since the 2nd hand gives that much more control.

Now great swords have so much greater range then a normal 1 handed blade that any speed advantage does not really matter. There is a reason that they were often professional bodyguards weapon of choice, if they lost to someone with an arming sword then that would not have been the case.

The 1 handed swords real advantage it is free your other hands for something like a parrying dagger, or a shield.

Remember sword and no shield looses to spear the majority of the time, purely from the advantages that come from reach.

Why raise his shield skill when he doesn't even use a shield? Even if his new class uses a shield, how would Hikaru explain why such a class appeared when Claude hasn't been training in the shield at all?

 

To encourage him to use a shield?

 

I don't think Lavia's going to be okay with his decision to recruit a masochistic healer with an obsessive crush on Hikaru. Or am I misremembering who these people are?

 

Nah, it's her. But how else can she save the others. And they have already proven unreliable at keeping their mouth shut so just leaving her after powering her to such level would be impractical and most likely come back to bite him. It'll make the party dynamic very interesting though, possessive Lavia is kinda cute.

 

He could have just powered her up without talking to her. She'd have attributed it to her prayers being answered and he could have stayed out of it.

Alternatively, he could have raised the patient's regenerative abilities (assuming she had soul points available, which seems likely).

 

That level of healing is going to be a curse on her life. Hikaru was more or less telling her what’s going to happen. Ethically, he had an obligation to inform her and give her a choice. She’s going to be fought over by every nation..

 

It wasn't a real choice, not in that situation. It was no more a choice than the people who sell insulin for 300x its cost are giving diabetics and their families a choice.
