1+1 = 2 = Dominant gene.

So, if two people carry similar traits, you increase the chances of that gene to produce itself more. Hence why Twins marrying other twins have a lot higher chance to produce twin children... One-egg twins that is.

Or two dwarves producing a child with dwarfism genes. Etcetera.

So it is only natural that incest will promote 'purer' bloodline since it will essentially be pairing two genes together, including the bad genes that would otherwise disappear in natural selection.
