This is a question that came to me out of pure curiosity... Do you all prefer the translator to translate the novel's title before putting it on NU or just put it in romaji/pinyin version?

Honestly, it's a no-brainer for me that I prefer it as a translated title, since I can actually know what the novel is about just by reading the title...

Yet somehow I keep seeing more and more mangas with untranslated titles being translated, and I have no idea why. Novels seem to avoid that problem and most titles are in English, but I lost count of how many mangas with untranslated titles I already found.

Just wondering your opinions on that, I guess that reading the romaji can give you some notion of the character relationships in the novel (as in, "Charlotte-chan" says a lot more about the relationship between characters than just "Charlotte"), but I can hardly see any point of keeping the entire title in romaji...

    Oh well, just curious here~

I prefer the titles to be translated but would probably refer to it by its combined JP names. Like Konosuba, Slime tensei, Haganai, etc.

Also, how careless of you to not just create poll.

I only do pointless polls, I prefer to hear people actually speak instead of just clicking a button to say their minds~

I could make a poll over their favorite stripper with all options being Tony I guess~

Oh, and I guess I'd probably refer to them in the same way you do! xD

Those are my default tags, ehehehehehehehhee~

If I can think of more tags, I try going for 7, but this many is fine too~

Translated for sure, because then I can actually remember the title. Though I still want pinyin as a sub title, why? Cause every translator can interpret the title differently. Take recent case of "I alone level up" and "solo leveling", a lot of people didn't realize it was the same thing.

Overall, I'm 3X less likely to continue reading a manga that isn't translated vs translated title due to forgetting the name.

Definitely translated. Potential readers need something to make them want to read; and sometimes, a good title can tell more about a story than a synopsis. But that's also dependent on whether the translator has read enough to get a general understanding of the story to pass on.

Translated. Because I can't mostly remember the raw titles compared to translated.

for me it depends on how easy the title is to remember.

for example, i prefer Douluo Dalu over Combat Continent/Soul Land, or Wortenia Senki over Wortenia War, or if long title, Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan, or Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei or Toaru majutsu no index.

at the same time however, i prefer Mad God over Kuang Shen, Paladin of the End over Saihate no Paladin.

i guess, in the end it mostly comes down to whichever i'm more exposed to, (or first).

For me, a translated title helps me better understand a work and make me click on it to see its description. I am less likely to select an untranslated title because I'd have no idea based on it if it would be to my taste

Mm, currently I’d prefer it to be translated, but the old ones are just stuck as certain terms.

Such as Arifureta, Mushoku Tenshi, etc.

I prefer titles to be translated, even if it does get ridiculously long. At least that gives me a vague sense about what the novel is about. Also I can’t remember untranslated titles for my life :blobdizzy:

Depends if the titles are easy to remember or if they look like too much like some others (Akuyaku).

I'm fine with either, but if i had to lean to one side, it be translated, just because English is my native language.

Try easy ones, like Konosuba or Kino no Tabi.
