This is a very dark story with plenty of smut. If you don't like reading about overly possessive ML then please don't read any further as the ML will never let the FL go. Spoiler: Background Eloise comes from an orphanage and is sold as the Prince's toy or playmate when she is young. She is 12 years old and he is 14 when they first meet when Rasid losses the ability to speak. She helps him come out of that darkness and teaches him how to talk and be human again. The first word he utters is her name, Eloise in joy. As they grow older, Rashid is possessive of his playmate as she is the only one he will protect and trust as he is obsessively in love with her. He wants to make her his Empress. The main plot of the story is a cat and mouse game between Rashid and the current Empress, his mother, and how he can protect Eloise. The former Emperor had an older son who was at the time, the Crown Prince, named Joseph from his prior marriage. Rashid's mother is the 2nd Empress. After the Emperor's marriage to the current Empress, she gives birth to Rashid. When he was born, his father, the formal emperor made sure all his education, staff, maids, and aids were assigned by him to ensure he grew up independent from his mother. Later Joseph suddenly becomes ill and dies. The Emperor grief-struck later too becomes ill and incapacitated. Then the Empress tells the public that her son has memory issues and is mute due to the shock of losing his half-brother Joseph. Due to her son's mental state, she announces with public support that must assume power for him as Regent to rule until he is better since her husband (the emperor) is unconscious and cannot rule the empire at this time. She is a big sponsor of the orphanage where Eloise originates from to show the public what a generous benefactor she is. She locks away her son, Rashid in a room and decides to give him a playmate from an orphanage, Eloise. To stay in power, the Empress started using the nobles to convince other nobles that it might be best to keep the Empress in power instead of the soon-to-be-crowned Crown Prince because she is better at running the government than her younger son and he's too inexperience. Thanks to Eloise helping him through losing his speech loss as Rashid as he gets older, the Empress announces that he is finally healed from this mental state and he seems to be doing well. Rashid has discovered that his mother wants to stay in power and the only way to do that is for his future death. As Regent, she needs him alive to control him and get public sympathy while she starts to bring in nobles for the next few years who will support her to keep her in power as she knows she will have to step down when Rashid is crowned emperor. This is happening soon. Knowing his own mother's terrible greed, he plots her downfall before she can suddenly kill him like she did his half-brother and step-father. Balek is Rashid's aid who was appointed by the prior Emperor himself. Balek is pretty much Rashid's right-hand man. As Crown Prince, Rashid has to carefully hide his hands as he grows in power, including constructing a separate, detached palace away from the imperial palace by the sea. Eloise graduates from childhood playmate to Rashid's personal maid. He keeps her living in his bedroom/office suite that is in a private section of the main palace. There is also a large garden by his residence and he built a greenhouse where she likes to pick flowers to decorate his private residence. The greenhouse it is created by Rashid for Eloise's personal usage. In his private residence, he pretty much makes love to Eloise a few times until she pretty much passes out from lots of pounding. Rashid gets easily jealous and is very protective of Eloise and won't let anyone go near her except for the head maid (Mrs. Heston) who takes care and watches over Eloise. He has to be careful as Eloise is also his weakness. His mother thinks Eloise is just a "toy" a simple fling and Rashid has to give the impression of this, else the Empress to use her against him and he doesn't want Eloise to be killed. To keep her protected, she is forbidden to leave Rashid's private living residence area so that she is not used as a political toy. Rashid's bedroom is full of gorgeous dresses and jewelry that Rashid has given to Eloise. She doesn't like to wear them as she feels awkward as she's just a maid and the items in this room are fit for a royal princess and aren't she just a "toy" to the Crown Prince? She doesn't feel worthy as she's not royalty but that doesn't matter to Rashid he likes to dress her in finery and then proceeds to rip them up later as he's snu-snuing with her. Spoiler: Summary: Part I The beginning of the story is about the Empress finding a companion for her son and she goes to the orphanage and gets Eloise. Locks them up together while she rules the Regent because her son has an illness and can't be guided to rule yet. Later as Rashid then grows out of illness and he starts to take more political work to run the country for the past few years. Soon will be crowned Emperor. Before that he shows his jealous side when Eloise much older now, is cutting new roses to decorate Rashid's office, a young man visits and it's the Earl of Astor Cain who greets her, she is shocked as usually this is a private area and you don't go through the area unless you're invited. He confesses he's heard about her and wanted to meet her and asks for a flower. Eloise is reluctant but gives him a flow and he leaves. As she looks up, she sees Rashid watching from above with cold eyes. He saw the whole scene. Suddenly when she heads back to the office, she is grabbed by Rashid and in his jealousy, he tells Eloise he has to punish her for being a bad girl by flirting with the Earl so he proceeds first to have her use her mouth on him until he releases under his office desk while Balek comes in to give him a quick update on work. When Balek leaves he then proceeds to pound her on his office table until she's begging for more of his love and almost wants to pass out and then takes her again to their bedroom. He forgives her after a few er...poundings of snu-snu and leaves her sleeping in their bedroom as he leaves to attend to government matters. (Typical smut novels). Rashid is thinking of just killing Count Astor out right for daring to flirt with his Eloise (his fear of someone taking Eloise away from him) but it's Eloise that has to calm him down from that train of thought. ---- At the government meeting of close advisors, the Empress announces to Rashid that her son needs to marry and he needs to marry soon as he is soon to be crowned emperor. Rashid calmly looks at his mother asking, "When was this?" She tells him he was betrothed to her when he was very young. She proceeds to announce in front of the government counsel that the Emperor would have made the engagement announcement before the emperor had gotten ill. Also, she says Rashid would have been married sooner if it wasn't for his illness when he was young. Since he's healthy now, they should rush the wedding. She is also been spreading the rumor that you never know if the Crown Prince's childhood illness may return someday, so he could be a defective prince. When Rashid returns irritated by the Empress and her manipulations, he finds Eloise in their bedroom where she is confined and not allowed to leave. Eloise doesn't like being cooped up in their bedroom and tells Rashid who likes to keep her naked and all to himself as she is so lovely to him and he doesn't want anyone to see her loveliness. After snu-snuing with her, he finally agrees she can go out into the large private garden but she still needs to stay close to the residence and not wander anywhere else. ------- Eloise recalls when she was 15 years old, she tried to leave Rashid as he grew healthy and could speak. She thought she was no longer necessary according to the Empress. Rashid is shocked and furious when Eloise tries to give him a burnt cookie she made himself as a farewell gift which he rejects. He tells Eloise she still belongs to him and must obey his orders as crown prince. He orders her to stay in his room and not to leave at all. In a panic, he runs to confront his mother. She tells him Eloise has done her job and it's best just to give her money and send her away. Rashid uses the excuse that she knows of his illness and could talk so his "toy" needs to stay with him. Also, he warns his mother to never interfere with his affairs again with his "toy". His mother looks at him and tells him very well, she didn't know he was so possessive of his toy as she was just trying to help him by getting rid of the toy. Rashid warns the empress that he may "regress" back to illness if she takes away his "toy" so she agrees to his terms so Eloise needs to stay. Since then, Rashid lives in fear she will try to leave him so Eloise keeps having to reassure Rashid, that she is not going to leave him. ---- The next day, Eloise is in the garden with Mrs. Heston are talking about Rashid's bad mood lately and he's been more possessive and needy than usual. Mrs. Heston tells her it's because of the upcoming announcement of the Crown Prince's engagement. Shocked, Eloise becomes depressed as this is news to her and she can barely think of taking care of the flowers. Later that night she helps dry Rashid from his bath and he sees her complex expression and asks her what's going on. She congratulates him on his upcoming engagement. Rashid is annoyed as he tells her the Empress wants to engage him with someone he's never met in his life and then he becomes angry at Eloise as she mentions children. Rashid says sarcastically yes, if he is to be married they would expect children and his child will become the next crown prince, so his mother has a new future Emperor she can work on. he knows the empress won't need Rashid around anymore. Spoiler: Summary: Part II At dinner, Rashid later discovers the name of his intended bride. Princess Annette, the daughter of the current Empress's brother, so Rashid's Uncle, and thus Princess Annette is his cousin. She tells Rashid that he needs to marry and let go of his "old toy" as it will be "messy and gets in the way" of his being crowned Emperor. She tells Rashid that she's excited to become a grandmother as it would please her so much. Rashid coyly tells his mother that he wishes for her to stay Empress a little longer which surprises her. He continues to tell her that he's worried about why he regressed into a childlike person when he was young and being mute. He notes that he may regress again and since he doesn't have a memory of what happened then he needs his mother's wisdom if he is going to rule She tells him it was the shock of losing his half-brother that was probably the reason he had such an illness because he was very close to his other brother growing up. Rashid plays his game as he asks his mother what about the Duke of Penshire's daughter? Is she not eligible to be his bride as well which freaks the Empress out and she slams her hand on the table. It is because the Duke of Penshire is from the 1st Empress's family. The empress tells Rashid the Duke does not have any daughters. Rashid tells his mother it would look politically favorable if the Duke adopts a daughter as part of his territory and a marriage pack between the Duke and Rashid would show to the public that his mother is not pushing the other marriage to Princess Annette to try to "solidify her power". The tells his mother very sweetly that he's worried for her as she's worked so hard for the empire that he didn't want to see her in a bad light. The Empress tells Rashid that Princess Annette's engagement was the will of his Father before he became unconscious. Rashid innocently counters by saying that a royal engagement is only valid when both parties receive the proposal and agrees in writing. There aren't any documents, so the engagement is void. Cornered, the Empress changes tactics and apologizes saying she rushed him too much and let's forget about the announced engagement as if it never happened. Wondering why she suddenly is okay with this, the Empress suggests why don't we just invite the Princess to visit as the Empress hasn't seen her niece in a while. Rashid smiles and tells his mother if that makes her happy, he's fine with it. This makes the Empress clap with joy as she says that Rashid once he sees her will like her as the Empress has always wanted a daughter as well so it's nice to have her niece visit since she's never given birth to any girl. [T/N: The volume is filled with this back and forth, cat and mouse dialog between Rashid and his mother] --- Princess Annette comes to the Empire on the premise of just visiting her Aunt but it basically tells others since his mother announced it, that she was a candidate soon to be empress. The Empress goes all out in getting the palace decked out before Annette's arrival by giving her a private wing that is closest to Rashid's residence. It signals to others a full royal treatment as if a "bride-to-be". In fact, the private palace wing was where Crown Prince Joseph used to reside. After his death, no one lived there but the Empress take the opportunity to remodel the place for Princess Annette's stay ---- Because the area is right next to the Rashid's area, Eloise can't help but watch the crazy remodeling and pass by the area as she heads to the garden. She sees all the new servants going in and out and the gardening and in her depression, as she believes with Rashid being married she is no longer needed, she accidentally cuts herself as she drops a vase of flowers. After isn't she just his Highness's personal maid, a lady toy who has no royal blood. Who is she to have thoughts of being only with Rashid. Mrs. Heston comes to her aid and helps clean up Eloise and is worried about her. Eloise has had trouble sleeping at night and has insomnia so she's exhausted most of the time. The only time she can sleep well is when she's in Rashid's arms when he holds her. Also, he snu-snus with her so much that she's so tired she can sleep. She realizes that she doesn't like that Rashid is getting married, in fact, she hates the idea of him being with someone else. She is shocked that she can even have such thoughts as she's just his personal maid. When Eloise heads back to Rashid's office with a tray of food for him, she finds him asleep on this desk as he's been working day and night in his office. The sun is shining on his face so she tries to cover it with her hand so he isn't sunburnt. Rashid wakes up and pulls Eloise into his arms and buries himself smelling her and nibbling on her neck. He tells her she smells fresh like the sun. Rashid then looks at Eloise and notices she has dark circles around her eyes. He gently caresses the dark skin and asks her if she's okay, she must not be sleeping very well and she snuggles into his arms. Because he's been working so hard, he did not have time to cuddle with Eloise at night. She retorts and tells him the same as she sees he has dark rings under his eyes as well and that he needs to sleep himself to build his stamina. This makes Rashid laugh and he tells her, that just holding her right now, is giving him the strength to go on. Rashid starts to pull on her dress string to undress Eloise and she freaks as it's during the day and it's embarrassing so she asks him to dance with her instead as she forgot and he's a good teacher. Skeptically he agrees and they begin to dance in his office. They both enjoy themselves when Eloise tells him it's good practice for him when he dances with the Princess. This causes Rashid to stop and become irritated at the name of the princess being said and then he sees Eloise's cut finger and gets upset that she's hurt. She quickly tells him, it's small and it was an accident. She asks if he'll visit the Princess and Rashid tell her no, as the princess is his mother's guest, not his. Instead, he'd rather be doing this, which is dancing with Eloise. There is a royal ball to welcome the princess and Rashid hasn't decided if he wants to go or not, he tells Eloise he'd rather just hang out with her in their private residence than anywhere else. He proceeds to pull Eloise close as he starts to hunger for Eloise's body. Suddenly they are disrupted when a servant tells Rashid his mother is asking for him. Cursing, he tells her he'll be there. But he has one more thing he wants to do which shocks Eloise as she thought she'd get out of having snu-snu. He basically lifts up her dress and proceeds to do a fast snu-snu with Eloise against the wall of his office while the servant is tapping on the door. Spoiler: Summary: Part III Rashid heads to visit his mother and Princess Annette is there. Annette thanks Rashid for such a warm welcome by giving her the private palace section, etc. Rashid wants to reply that it wasn't him and the Empress cuts Rashid off saying that she thinks Princess Annette has gotten so beautiful and Rashid has prepared a wonderful reception for the princess. -- The games between the Empress and Rashid continue as the empress puts the two together fawning over Princess Annette. The Earl of Tess comes in to greet them and now is the time for the reception/ball to start. -- Back at Rashid's residence area, Elosie is shocked as the Empress's maid tells her she is to attend the reception/ball for Princess Annette. Mrs. Heston tells the maid that is not what the Crown Prince has scheduled for Eloise The maid responds it is by order of the Empress Mrs. Heston fights back saying they still need permission from the Crown Prince as she knows this is not a good idea. Eloise agrees and tells the maid, thank you for the invitation but she will stay at the Crown Prince's residence Outrage the Empress's maid questions how dare she ignores the will of the Empress, the servant thought Eloise was a "good toy lady who obeys". Shocked and hurt by those words. Eloise has no choice but to attend. She hates that title because that's what the Empress calls her and she recalls everyone going "oh what a pretty and cute living toy" the empress has brought to the palace. Mrs. Heston helps Eloise dress in a gown provided by the Empress and tells her to ignore what that maid said. --- The Empress forces Rashid to hold the Princess's hand to escort her to the reception so that everyone can see. As they enter Rashid knows there is a rumor about him. Even though he has shown his strong political skills and intelligence in successfully running government work, the worry about Crown Prince due to his childhood illness and wonder if the illness may return someday. Rashid has to guide the first dance with the Princess. The Empress grins as she also watches Eloise, who has been dressed up and forced to watch the whole scene. Her heart is crushed as she watches them dancing as a beautiful couple and wants to leave this reception. Another man asks her to dance and she refuses. Many people of heard of the "Toy Lady" but have rarely seen her so, many start to become curious about the Prince's Toy Lady she is very lovely and she just rejected a dance with a high-ranking Marquis. I wanted to bring her to this special day." --- A furious and jealous Rashid has ripped the Empress's horrible dress away from Eloise is he's pretty much-going snu-snu on her. It becomes a long night for Eloise as Rashid won't let her go. ---- The next day Rashid looks at the family portraits and especially of Crown Prince Joseph who is kind and good-natured that the public loved him. Rashid recalls many were worried when Rashid was born about succession with the Crown Prince. But Joseph instead was fond of his younger brother by teaching him horseback riding, and chess, and often spent much of his time teaching his Rashid. Rashid often ran to his brother's room to play as he is always welcomed. Usually, Joseph knows that Rashid likes to play hide and seek most of the time Rashid hides somewhere and Joseph looks around for him for fun. One day, Rashid comes into Joseph's room and hides behind a large curtain. As Rashid is hiding he hears his brother come in and then hears the Empress's voice and the Earl of Tess come in as well after his brother. The empress brings a snack for Joseph saying its something that Rashid likes to eat. The Earl of Tess sees Rashid who puts his finger to his lips to tell the Earl not to reveal his location. The Earl grins and nods. Joseph thanks the empress for the snack and starts to nibble on them. The Earl and Empress leave. Rashid who's been waiting for his brother to find him like he usually does hears a strange noise coming from Joseph. "Brother?" When he comes out of hiding he sees his brother struggling as blood is seeping out of his mouth and nose. Rashid, screams "Brother" several times as his cries echo the room. --- Eloise and Mrs. Heston are in the garden and they discover a guard dog has been poisoned. It soon realized that no one knows where Rashid is. As Mrs. Heston is secretly looking for him, Eloise realizes where he may be. Back in the old toy room when they were playmates, locked up with each other. It is raining heavily outside. Eloise heads there by herself and finds a Rashid laid out on the old child sofa with his eyes closed. She rushes to him in a panic as his face is deathly white. He at first doesn't respond and then as he comes to, he mumbles to her it's alright. She doesn't believe him and gets up to get him some medicine. Rashid instead pulls Eloise into his arms and she's sprawled on top of him. He digs in to hold her tightly. Realizing something is wrong, she cradles him as well and holds him to her chest. As lightning flashes, she sees a pale-faced Prince who looks broken. His expression reminded her of the time when they first met. He looked just as broken and damaged unable to comprehend or speak. Worried for him she holds him deeper, he feels so cold in her arms like he can't get warm. Comforting him, she tells him just like she did when they first met..as he doesn't respond to her calling him... "You don't have to be afraid" "No one can harm, your majesty." Suddenly Eloise is pulled in a crushing kiss as Rashid devious hungrily her lips. Eloise accepts his need as this seems to warm him up as he still feels cold in her arms. Finally, a voice calls her name in a prayer-like voice and he asks her to hold on to him as he rips off Eloise's clothing and proceeds to snu-snu her on the rug floor. As he pounds into her, he gasps out that he's wanted her for so long since they were in this room for 3 years. She can barely respond to the intensity of his love-making. Feeling like this is a finale for Eloise as Rashid is moving further away from her, Eloise explores the room before it's taken down and recalls all the memories she had with Rashid as they played together for 3 years in this room. She finds a small toy box and unlocks it as it was Rashid's precious toys he stored there. Inside she finds the rabbit toy that she had carried with her when they first met. She thought she had lost it. Now that Rashid is tossing away his precious toys, it's like he's tossing her away, she believes. She takes the Rabbit doll with her. Since she came with the rabbit stuffed animal, she should leave with it. --- As soon as she returns, Rashid asks her tersely where has she been. She tells him about the toy room. He asks her if she found anything or remembers anything. She tells him about her Rabbit doll. Rashid looks at her for a moment. "...The one you always carried around?" She tells him, yes and she shows the beat-up doll, embarrassingly. He gently asks her if she wants dolls now. Is that her wish? She tells him of course not thinking she's too old for dolls. Rashid pulls her into his arms, grinning, and tells her, she's the only toy he wanted to play with or carry around. -- For the next several days, boxes and boxes of gifts arrive in the office and Mrs. Heston tells Eloise they are for her. Inside are amazing and extremely expensive and beautiful dresses. Eloise admires the fabric Mrs. Heston wanting to see Eloise happy tells her to open more boxes. When she opens another box she's shocked. It is a brand new doll. Suddenly a voice comes from behind asking if she doesn't like it. It's Rashid. Embarrassed she smiles and tells him Thank you as she does. Rashid is glad and he asks if she likes the dress as well. She does. Rashid asks Eloise to put the gown on and helps fasten the buttons for her. While she's dressing up Rashid, she accidentally stabs her finger as she's putting on a pin on his collar. Rashid sucks the blood off her finger. and then orders a doctor to see Eloise's wound as he thinks the pin went too deep into her skin. He kisses her and tells her he'll be back. --- While Rashid is away for political matters, since her finger has been wrapped up in bandages and is slightly throbbing, Eloise decides to go to the greenhouse to get fresh flowers since she can't embroider or do other things. Lost in thoughts for about 2 hours, she gets enough of what she needs and heads out of the large greenhouse. Suddenly a sharp voice calls out to her. Princess Annette says nothing for a while as the sun is now beating down on Eloise who is sweating and she is starting to become faint and dizzy. The Princess comments on how pretty the flowers that Eloise collected are and the maid forcibly takes Eloise's basket when Eloise protests "no" to the maid. The princess smirks and asks if these are flowers to fill the Prince's office. Eloise nods and finally, the princess tells Eloise she can rise. The Head maid sharply questions Elosie, asking who she is as "the crime of disturbing the Princess's walk is great". Eloise introduces herself as the maid of the imperial palace and that she is bringing these flowers to decorate His Majesty's office. "Ah...the toy that his Highness Loves." the Princess says mockingly. The princess commands Eloise to raise her head as she stares at Eloise and questions Eloise's background and discovers Eloise is not from some great family but a lowly orphan. She then looks at Eloise's dress and how pretty it is. She recognizes the fabric comes from Dimas a far place and this fabric is rare and extremely expensive. The princess asks if the fabric is an imitation and her maid tells her it's authentic which makes the princess furious as she doesn't even have that kind of dress. She questions if Eloise stole the dress. Eloise is forced to tell her the Prince gave her this dress. The Princess sneers at how well-loved she is. Feeling uncomfortable, Eloise bows and asks for her leave when the Princess asks, “Since I heard you've been serving His Highness since childhood, so when we get married, will you be serving as my toy as well?” Eloise doesn't answer The princess tells Eloise she should play with her as a toy. Eloise, informs the princess she has to go back and the princess asks "Are you rejecting my invitation?" Eloise informs her that she must return as it is His highness's orders. The head maid screams how dare you reject the Princess's orders and the princess tells Eloise, that since she is Rashid's fiance, he won't mind if she borrows his little toy and she adds that the Empress would allow it as she has given the Princess permission to freely entire the greenhouse whenever she likes. Eloise tells the princess that she cannot go anywhere without His highness's explicit permission. Outraged, the maids all rush at Eloise and grab her arms and drag her down screaming how dare she disobey the princess. The maids hold on to Eloise and force her to seat at the tea-table across from the Princess and try to force tea and food down her throat. She resists and bites one of the maid's fingers. As she screams that she can only eat what Rashid brings or allows. Furious the maid slaps Eloise. As the princess sips her tea, she commands her maids to rip away Eloise's pretty dress with scissors. The Princess then becomes furious when she sees love marks above Eloise's chest and orders her maids to strip Eloise naked. Suddenly a bang is heard. All turn and Rashid is standing in the Greenhouse. Everyone bows and Princess Annette tells him she didn't know he was coming. He turns to her and tells her she should be contacting him first before she visits and turns away from her. Then he throws his jacket over Eloise to cover her and lifts her into his arms and leaves the Princess in a state of shock. --- When Mrs. Heston sees Eloise in the Rashid's arms, she quickly calls the doctors and nurses As Rashid gently removes the tattered remnants of the dress, Eloise apologizes to Rashid as she blames herself for leaving the safety of his office. He tells her it's a marriage he never asked for and by her forcing it, he will reject it and walk away. He is done now. --- A furious Empress throws her tea cup against the wall shattering it all over the place and is furious a "toy" has ruined their plans. Earl of Tess reassures the Empress they have other means He tells the Empress they just have to steal the "toy" in secret away from His majesty. --- While Rashid is away, the Empress brings Eloise to her room and confronts Eloise Question if she wants to keep staying with him like this? Eloise is confused and doesn't understand. The empress proceeds to say she was brought to the palace only to heal his highness. Since he's healed she is no more use and should leave She tells Eloise that it must be nice to be spoiled by her son with pretty clothing and gifts. She asks Eloise what's the difference between her and a woman in the brothel? She tells Eloise, that she knows that Rashid has been given her contraception so that she doesn't get pregnant and that means Rashid doesn't want a child with her, so what good of use is Eloise to Rashid who needs an heir to the throne? Since he has to marry someone and have a child with them, the empress insinuates that she will grow old and he will tire of her since she can't even bear his children. What value can she truly provide him? Eloise is shocked as she never knew about the contraception medicine. The Empress tries to feed Eloise but Eloise refuses saying she can only eat what Rashid provides to her so the Empress doesn't push it. [T/N: Rashid does want a child with Eloise, but if she's pregnant then the Empress will kill Rashid to control the baby as the new emperor] Then the Empress tells Eloise, she can help Eloise leave the palace if she wants as she knew the last time she was leaving the palace, Rashid was furious. The Empress tells Eloise she can escape so that Rashid doesn't throw her away. Then the Empress sends Eloise away to think about her offer. Back in her room, a devastated Elioise ponders the Empress's word and is depressed as she had wished secretly she could have his child. But since that is not possible since he is marrying the Princess and will have an heir with her instead of Eloise so it makes sense that he must of tired of her if he won't give her a baby. --- Rashid tells Eloise he has to go on the annual noble hunting trip and will be back in 10 days. She smiles gently and gives him a handkerchief she personally made for him to wish him luck. Taking her gift he smiles and kisses her and says he will see her again. She is to stay in his residence while he is away and not to leave. When Rashid departs, Eloise goes to Mrs. Heston and asks her to help her escape the palace. Mrs. Heston reluctantly agrees as she wants to see Eloise happy and not suffering. --- As Rashid and Balek ride in the carriage for a while to the hunting event, something is bothering Rashid for a while. It was Eloise's expression when she gave him the handkerchief. It reminded him of the broken rabbit cookie she baked for him just when she was about to leave. Suddenly he orders them to turn the carriage around. Realizing it's too slow, he orders a horse brought to him and he rides back like a madman. --- Eloise has escaped in a shabby carriage from the palace. As a carriage is moving along, suddenly a strong voice is heard and demands the carriage stopped. Rashid blows on the door and cuts his hands bleeding. Finding Eloise, he pulls her from the carriage. Furious, Eloise screams at him to let her go and she hates all of it and protests and struggles in his arms. He pulls her into his arms and puts her on his horse, furious, and warns her to stop struggling as he doesn't want to hurt his toy and cry. Eloise stops protesting and they ride back to the palace silent. There he ignores everyone as he carries Eloise into his arms back to their room. Alone and furious he demands she tell him what she was thinking and why is she playing with his heart by leaving him. She turns around and yells at him she never has. He asks her why, again? She tells him that she has no reason to be here. "Reason?" She tells him she came to play with the role of playing his toy. Since he's tired of hugging her, she needs to leave. A shocked Rashid looks at her as if she's said something outrageous and ridiculous "...Tired of you?" Rashid then ties Eloise to his bed and begins to show how much she is wrong about him being "tired of her". In wanting to make her feel as insane as he is about her, he feeds her a light aphrodisiac Rashid pleasures her so strongly that she is furious that her body craves his body is even stronger than before. They snu-snu for the rest of the evening. --- The next day, Eloise refuses to eat to get well. Rashid comes in and they fight as Eloise refuses food from him. He ends up putting food in his mouth and kissing Eloise to drink soup. Eloise upset with him, tells him to let her go as she knows he's tired of her. He checks on her fever and is relieved she is feeling better as he hasn't slept until her fever broke. He said he can't be an angel as angels can't conceive children. Eloise is like huh? As they are lying there, he asks as he talked to Mrs. Heston, if she wants to bear his child. An embarrassed Eloise quickly denies this. Rashid instead looks at her and tells her he can make her pregnant as he didn't know that a child with Eloise is what she wants. Rashid had invited him as he still holds power from the 1st Empress's side. The Empress is furious and the Earl of Tess calms her down as the hunting competition has begun. We learn that the Earl of Tess is thrown off his horse while hunting and Rashid hunt him down. The Earl tries to tell Rashid is done for the empress and him. Rashid tells him he dared to touch what belong to him and kills the Earl in the woods. --- The palace is adorned in black for the past week Rashid has assumed power. He finds the Emperor's decomposed body in bed, declaring the emperor officially dead. Since Rashid is of age he now is crowned emperor as his mother is no longer Regent. The Empress, dressed in black as she is an official widow now, looks gaunt as Rashid has changed all the power dynamics. Rashid tells the Empress he is sorry the Earl of Tess is dead but not to worry as he will attach a new faithful aid to the Empress. A nervous Empress asks what he is talking about. He tells her the Earl died in a tragic hunting accident and now that he's Emperor, he will move his mother to an isolated palace with guards. She questions why he is driving her out of the main palace. He counters and asks her why did she try to separate Eloise from him. "...." He asks was she planning to bury Eloise somewhere as she did back then. A stunned Empress can't reply. Then Rashid tells his mother is has a final gift for her. Trembling she watches as Rashid brings her a box and demands she open it. When she opens the contents to see what is inside, she screams and drops the box The box contains severed hands (Earl of Tess's). She asks why did he do this. Rashid responds that because she tried to harm his toy, he must destroy his mother's toys and he did warn her that children's toys are not to be trifled with. She thinks her son is mad. Rashid tells since she is the empress and will be a grandmother, she can live and she will spend the rest of her life isolated in that separate tower never allowed to leave until she dies. She starts to name the nobles who are loyal to her. Rashid tells her they all have died in different accidents and he tells the Empress that she taught him well. He will take care of his father's toy (the 2nd empress) and treat her well in her own isolated castle. The empress asks when did he plan this all. He tells her awhile since his bother's death and his father's sudden illness. She realizes he has known all this time about what she has done. She tells him he is crazy. He thanks her saying because of her, he has the power now to protect his toy so don't worry and please rest in the isolated palace forever. --- Eloise is watching the sea from the newly erected palace that Rashid has built. She has been safely away from the main palace for the past few weeks where Rashid promises he will return to pick her up. Eloise has come to realize the Empress's sins and Rashid keeps her away in the new palace to keep her safe from the Empress as she doesn't know where Rashid has taken her. He comes back early and holds her as they watch the sea then he begins to make love to Eloise. Then he turns around and kisses her. He tells her he is now the Emperor and she will become his empress. She asks how can that be? She is not of noble blood. She doesn't think that can be possible and then feels her stomach as a child is growing there. He reassures her by telling her the Duke of Penshire will adopt her. She is now the Duchess of Penshire. With that, she is qualified to marry him. She is surprised as a child she used to dream of being married to the man she loves, and having children of her own and now that's all coming true. Eloise is shocked how can this be an Empress and then freaks about what should she do as Empress, how does she act and learn? Rashid tells her all she needs to do is just be by his side. Fall asleep next to him, etc. She wonders what the baby will be like. Rashid grins and hopes the baby is just like Eloise. Then he tells her there is only one thing he can't give Eloise. She asks what's that. They can't be in separate bedrooms like his parents. She will always sleep together with him in bed. "You can't fall asleep anywhere unless you're in my arms." She grins and tells him she agrees. End of the novel.
