No one put a gun to her head and made her promise that. She just did it because she was annoyed He Changdi was cutting into her time with Sima Hui.

I really feel like she either should be more mentally prepared for this or have been willing to put the brakes on the entire situation earlier, because He Changdi is a socially awkward guy who clearly has no idea how to deal with women and Chu Lian has made a note to herself about this more than once. He Changdi is VERY afraid of getting his heart broken all over again, and part of that has to do with upholding promises. This all around is just uncomfortable to read, not least because it's been dragging on for like four chapters already.

For the overall society, maybe. But the author built up House Jing'an as being a bit different and not so....shitty to women, relatively at least. Then again, we all know HCD is a fairly big idiot when it comes to things like this.

Because she thinks she already knows the answer. It doesn't matter what actually happened... just the fact that CL was kidnapped at all = automatic reputation hit if it gets out. If she wasn't already married this would probably ruin her chances of a good marriage.
