So I had this speculation that I've been thinking about for an entire day. Cale noted in a recent chapter that Arm is killing all the strong people rather than persuade them to work together. My hypothesis is this: Among the common troupes in fantasy settings that would fit this situation is the 'Demon Realm Invasion' planned by a 'Demon Lord'. This is just a far fetch idea but I think that it really fits.

 

would you mind explaining the troupe?
i usually read comedy, so demon king troupe is usually "misunderstood evil looking guy" or "i did this for self defense, you human started first" or "i didn't plan this, my retainers did" so my understanding is really different from yours.

 

Classical fantasy usually had demons as the enemy in a fantasy world due to the ease of monsterising them and the lack of need for a true human element.
They were also something that people didn't care if they were killed as in religions demons were usually the villains, which made it easy to make them the villain. The Demon King trope is just an expansion on that with a main boss as well as an easy villain. They were easy enemies to write so it caught on and became popular.
It is similar to the corrupt noble trope apart for a whole book enemy and with a large amount of enemies and less scheming. Even now there are still books being written with demons and demon kings as the villains.
