I found this gem novel in this thread. Try to MTL-ed this series for 5days only reach chapter 250ish.. This story really satisfying to read, and super slow paced. And each chapters is very long. I'm gonna spilled a bit here.

The plot of the past live is slowly revealed as story goes by. In the past life, MC 1st fiancee was her cousin by grandmother's side, Chen Zheng Min (CZM). But after he take exams, and become top 3, Princess Min (ML's half sister by Su Guifei) take a liking to him. As the result, Su Guifei forced MC's engagement to broke. And CZM have to marry the princess as FuMa. Ofc this make CZM extremely hate the princess, as he loves MC. His family (Chens) also hates the princess as now CZM cannot really involved in politic because of his Fuma status, and princess status is too high for elder in the family to admonish her if something happen. So after many years of marriage, CZM did not go to the princess bed at all and make her got reputation of 'hen that cannot lay egg'

Interestingly, this man, still choose by Grandma Luo to be 2nd live MC's 1st fiance again. But this time, ML deliberately make other woman (Li Ru Yu) who hates MC to sleep with CZM. This LRY is stupid woman who loves her cousin Sun YiLin (SYL, who later become MC's 2nd fiance). The queen is come from Sun family (Ding Guogongfu) and her sister marry Cheng Junwang, and Li Ru Yu is Cheng Junwang's daughter. Originally she should be titled XianZhu, but because her aunt is the queen, she got title Junzhu, but it's actually empty title that only good to be hear. She loves SYL to the point, she will whip any unfortunate girl speak to SYL, that one day happens to be MC in the Dingguogong party. But our ML happen to come to the party as well, then ML whipped this girl back.

Later she want to humiliate MC with the "help" of MC's 4th sister (cousin) in the 1st elder princess b'day party. But it was backfired, then she seduced CZM the night before his exam (CZM still become top 3). Then in the morning after they done, she still has the face to come to Luo Jia to forced MC to break her engagement. Ofc MC then slap LRY hard then threatened her. LRY's parents who didn't know what happen, thought their daughter is bullied and reported to the emperor, saying their (royal) daughter bullied by (minister) daughter. This soon become joke to the whole capital, and emperor who presides over the judgement call everybody involved. Spoiler: 2nd fiance(only happen in 2nd live)

As for Sun Yi Lin, he is the most promising in the young generation of Ding Guogong family, he still young but already mastering 4 arts. But he got very evil big brother who tried to kill him since young, making the mother super protective over this son. This mother also the 1 lead to SYL's downfall. He didn't really notice MC at 1st, but he soon realized this girl also has same hobby in horticulture with him. Couple with SYL's sister Sun Yi Jia (SYJ) is become MC's bff, he become close to MC. He think, he want to make a name 1st, join the politic, then later propose MC (because MC still young). But soon he heard, CZM become MC's fiance, he become angry and tried to make things difficult to CZM in public, then tell CZM if he didn't cherish MC, he will grab her in the future. So when CZM's incident is happen, SYL almost jig dance . Directly said to his grandma and mother he wants to marry MC (afraid he being too late again).

At this point, it's still good, but SYL's mom got unloved-mother-in-law-syndrome crisis, she was used to be his son's no 1 woman in his live. Now he showing attention to another woman, it's didn't sit well in the mom's brain. 1st she tried to giving too huge engagement gift (making Luo Jia seems being coerce to agree with this engagement). When she being reprimanded by her mother in law and the queen (the queen want to draw Luo Jia to their party), she didn't repent, but hate MC more. So she stole her son's personal jade, and give it to an enemy family girl who is pregnant before marriage. She secretly tell the girl to make a scene in front of Luo Jia to accept her as SYL's concubine as she is already pregnant. OFC, all this is not happen if not being "helped" by certain prince who keep an eye to MC.

The engagement broke again, the mom got estrange by her own son who realize what his mom doing. The queen who also angry then take the mom's power in the backyard house. SYL later ask the emperor to give him job outside capital to leave the family as his protest and disappointment to his mom

Spoiler: past live husband

After her engagement with CZM broke in the 1st live, MC got scheme by LRY because SYL. According to ML, MC was thrown by LRY's minion to a pond, then later saved by Fu Yun Ting. So she had to marry FYT, but the marriage never complete (they never sleep together), because when they marry, Fu Yun Ting's uncle just died, so they in the mourning period for 1 year. When the mourning period almost over, the war happens. And FYT has to go to war. MC tried to help her husband by gathering food and stuff for army. She didn't want to drag her Luo family in this mess as well, so she cut ties with them. In the end her husband died (along with 300k soldiers) because the emperor want to kill Wu An Houfu power completely. FYT actually ask MC to leave him and return to her family back. But MC never did it. In ML opinion, FYT still try to bind MC to himself until last moment because of his selfishness.

Spoiler: MC and ML past live

MC and ML already known each other before ML kill (or capture Fu Yunting). In the past live, MC save ML and help him a lot. Then when FYT captured, to save FYT's nephew ML ask MC to 1 nite stand with him as payment. From this 1 nite stand, MC get pregnant, and later gave birth to a boy, who later become ML's only son and heir. ML also has "love and hate" rls with this boy, because this boy is the reason MC's death. In ML's mind, if the boy is not inherited some of MC's quality, he will not be his heir.

He died because of overwork in the age 40 and his body deteriorate faster because not maintained well. He often think, if MC by his side, maybe she will maintain his body and they will stay side by side till old age.

Btw, to think of it, ML soul actually is 50yo old man who hunting (not-so)young MC. He reincarnated back to his 10yo self, and as story goes on ML body is around 22-23yo. After he get out of the palace at age 16, he send Gong mama and some spies who report regularly of what MC doing. He tried to not influence MC growth as much as possible, because he wants MC to be MC he knows. While MC died around 20ish in modern time and born as her new self now, so her soul age is around 35-36ish.

Spoiler: ML's history

At this point, ML in prev lives already hunted by his own father and brothers. The reason is, when ML was born, his mom (Huang Guifei) was strangled by the emperor (long short story : when the emperor go to Jiang Nan he falls in love with a lady from Pei clan, who happen to be prev dynasty family clan. He rob the lady from the family and fiancee then gives her Huang Guifei title. The fiancee after few years later tried to contact her, and she responded with a letter stating she is in good health, good life, please forget her and get your own wife. But the emperor ofc got jealous and misunderstood the letter, so he killed her).

At last moment, Huang Guifei begged the emperor to spare the child. So the emperor slice open Huang Guifei's belly and take the child. This act however make ML labelled as 'devil child' (at that time nobody know cesarean method). So ML in the emperor's eyes is not qualified to inherit the throne. To cover what the emperor did, he killed all the servants in the Huang Guifei's palace and state to the world she died because of postpartum bleeding. That's why ML in the prev lives raised as waste, and when he tried to get interest in helping the emperor like other prince, the emperor tried to kill him.

That's why ML in the 2nd live did not tried to openly get power and deliberately lives as 1st-class-debauched. The emperor also indulged him. For the emperor, as long as this son remain as 'waste', no matter how and what outrageous thing he did, he will only act 'thunderously angry' but will only giving light punishment. This point then heavily exploited by ML, like speak so frankly without bothering to be polite at all to his father, or making his brothers angry jealous.

Su Guifei also can 'safely' love this 2nd son because she knows he will never threatened her real son (the 3rd prince). Ofc, ML know this false 'loves' from his parents, so he did a lot of things in the back. Like make sure his 3rd brother never has son. And terrorize Su Guifei's daughter the princess Min to be scared of blood (he tortured a cat in front of 6-7yo princess Min so the princess has deep trauma of blood and afraid to her 6th brother. She got sick after the incident and forgot the details, so doesn't know why she instinctively feared her brother). The reason he did this is because in prev lives the princess is the source of all MC's suffering. If she didn't force the marriage, MC will not marry Wu An Houfu, and all those stuff never happen.

Spoiler: Ruan Fangfei

As for Ruan Fangfei, this woman is both crazy and poor. Her 'dad' is head of cabinet Ruan Rui Zhong, and her mom wei-shi is RRZ's very young 2nd wife. Wei shi actually from traitors clan and tried to infiltrate the country. In front of everyone she is virtuous wife, but in the back she sleeps with her 2 step sons as she didn't 'satisfied' by her husband, making even wei shi didn't know who RFF actual father is. In the prev lives, ML didn't caught RFF's eyes, that's why he didn't know much, only later the wife's debauchery out and the family revealed to be traitors and later got executed by the emperor.

In the 2nd lives, because ML make a persona as SUPER JERK (with capital letters because everybody practically runaway when he comes), RFF (with her twisted mind) loves ML badly. To the point she offer herself to ML (refused), and killing/ruin all the ML's fiancee (thus making ML got very bad reputation, with 7 fiancee who got killed, got accident, pregnant before marriage and other stuff). She also has crazy mind, want to be the best, if she cannot get it, she will ruin it. It was said, she is 1 of the 2 most sought out ladies in capital. The other is Sun Yi Jia, so when she got chance she make a landslide happen to the carriage SYJ, MC, and 2 other girls inside. SYJ got her face slashed by rock because of this. But the plan is backfired because SYJ families who make noise to the emperor how their daughter's face now ruin and cannot marry later got decreed to be 7th ML fiance and RFF also got decreed to be ML's cefei to compensate him have to take ruin face woman. So RFF later drugged Sun YiJia and get Zhongwang shizi to ruin her. SYJ escaped by jump to the lake, and saved by MC's 3rd brother (so they married as in the eye of others this is also ruined). In reality, ML helping SYJ to be "ruined" by MC's brother, because he want to draw SYL to his party (SYL genuinely love this sister) and MC asking it (what MC ask he will do it).

Spoiler: Sun YiJia

SYJ happen to in loves with MC's 3rd brother. So this become happy ending for her. As according to ML, in the 1st live, she married the 1st Prince (Kang Wang), and later killed by ML when he "cleaned up" the imperial family. MC's 3rd brother also known as promising young man who make a reputation in paint art. Actually MC just like to paint with modern style, but Luo grandpa afraid this method fame is too big for a girl to handle, so he order MC's brother to learn this method, then later spread it. MC understand grandpa worry, so she let her brother to learn it. MC also giving a lot of brainwash to her brother like 1 pair for a live time, and to stay away from other woman after marriage. Sje also tell him to play "Feng Qiu Huang" song when marry SYJ (make the brother labelled as the most romantic Gongzi in town, and a lot of girls try to seduced him because SYJ's face is basically ruin, but MC's brainwash seems working because he keep loyal to SYJ).

Later when MC decreed to be 8th fiancee, RFF drug MC to make her vomit and has pregnant pulse. ML got angry, so he killed RFF's maid in horrid way, and on the same day, he make accident happen to RFF's carriage so RFF got her face ruin. Not only that, ML also put poison in the RFF's face cream, so her injury become larger and blackish.

When the emperor making big entourage to summer palace, MC also come along with her families. ML and MC then goes to forest to 'date'. This witnessed by RFF, so she command 3 of her dark guard to kill MC. ML killed them all and hang the 3 heads in RFF's carriage. So when RFF wake up from her nap, expecting MC killed, she got 'surprised' by extra decorations. She almost crazy now, asking her mom to kill MC, which mom promised her, but overheard by ML's spies. So when they passing by a village, ML then command his man to lured out RFF using her cousin 'face' to a field. Then get RFF raped by many men. Not only that, Zhongwang (whose son killed in the SYJ lake incident) passed by, then got blame to be the 1 raped her. So now, instead become ML's cefei, she has to be Zhongwang's cefei. Zhongwang knows RFF got raped by lots of men, so he torture RFF later.

At this point, RFF become super twisted psycho, she ask her mom to kill all the villagers who she suspect raped her. But all the 6 dark guards who commanded by the mom to kill the villagers instead got killed by ML, then their heads "return" to the family in a box. The head cabinet RRZ is already old, he cannot stand this too many terror to his family, 1st daughter's maid killed, daughter got accident and ruined face, then 3 heads in daughter carriage, then daughter got raped, then 6 heads in a box. So he got mini heart attack while in the cabinet session. When he got back home early, strangely nobody come to greet him. As he goes to his backyard, he heard his 2 sons with his young wife having "wild" session. This almost make him got stroke, and at last moment, ML showed up secretly in front of RRZ. Tell him it's him the 1 terrorizing his family, and what his wife is. RRZ now even too afraid to dead, his wife giving green hat now seem light stuff because if it's known his wife a traitor, his whole family clan will go to guillotine. So now RRZ begged ML to become ML's dog to keep the secret.

IMO, the ML way to play RFF is like cat playing capture mouse. He let RFF think she is in control while actually she dance in ML's palm. He also knows RFF is the 1 kill/ruin all his 7 fiance before, he just doing nothing because RFF doing free dirty job for him. And I found this trait in the way ML treat his enemies a lot. Or maybe author just want to prolong the story and plot.

ML's goals in life after marrying MC

1. Have MC love him
2. Don't have kids now
3. Keep MC happy
4. Keep his family away from MC as much as possible
5. Tease MC
6. Keep his throne plans in the dark (MC knows of his plans)
7. Make sure MC doesn't disappear into a field of plants/flowers (ML keeps gardens for MC)
8. Keep as many men away from MC as possible
9. Make sure MC pays attention to him
10. (Forgot to add) have all behaviors that look bad in their society blamed on himself, have MC as the "unwilling" accomplice
11. Keep the country safe for MC. ML has stated to himself if no MC in the country, he would have just sat back and watched the country fall. After the fall, maybe out of boredom he would cause trouble for the nation's that divided the country up.
12. Make MC's reputation so good that no one will tell him to make a harem when he's emperor
13. Get the throne

uuuh... u mean beside random ML's inner thought of his obsession to MC while stalking her?

Spoiler: not in order of the story

* ML is super jealous of MC still meet her previous fiances even though she now is his fiance, so he said he should kill them all. MC said, "excuse me... technically i also have 7 people before me as i am no 8, while you only have 2 people in front of you". Then ML said, "my previous fiances is in no states of want to meet me, while yours all still buzzing around you." This make MC speechless, so she promise to not meet them again. Then later CZM "magically" agree to marry LRY, and SYL left the capital.

* When MC and friends go to BaiLong temple, they got accident (by RFF). So later MC fall from a cliff, and meet ML in the river at the bottom of the cliff. ML just got assassinated attempt so he is hurts and unconscious. Actually ML's dark guard is in the background, but they spot MC not far from ML. So they "wake" MC with sniffing drug, then try to lead MC to "find" ML (poor dark guards). Then they have to "help" MC treat ML, sneaking knife in ML's clothes, and pretend they are late to find ML (ofc after ML got his fill of groping and hugging MC).

* ML has a habit of sneak in MC's room when she already sleep. The only 1 know this is Gong mama (the old maid ML send to MC). Gong mama keep chastise him because of this (she dare to because she is the 1 trained ML when he is young, she is 1 of the Huang Guifei secret servant).

* ML likes to cuddle sleeping MC, his theory is to make MC used to sleep with him after get married. MC 1 night though she got erotic dream because of ML cuddle (she didn't know she is being cuddled).

* ML pretty much abused everybody in ministry of work to create better carriage for MC. Also in the household dept when he become MC's fiance because he is not satisfied with the dowry of household dept prepare for MC. ML's bride price for MC is so expensive even the eldest prince is not this much.

* Because of MC's 1st and 2nd failure engagement, she also realize her grandpa position cannot be keep neutral if things goes on like this. * ML still has the audacity to be calm face when he heard the emperor words of he selling his son for some stuff (inner self: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!) and pretend to be irked by this.

* ML also secretly happy MC choose him by herself

* After a party, ML just directly drag MC to his carriage, r8 in front of MC's family. Nobody dare to say anything. ML invite MC to has lunch in his wangfu. Then things got too steamy for them, they continue it in the room, with both end up naked (MC still virgin, ML still want to save the final act for wedding night). Gong mama is giving them dirty and chastised look all the time. MC return at night, but again, nobody in the family dare to say anything.

* Ever since then, ML got all touchy mode release, MC realize ML has a habit to sneak in her room at night. Gong mama also forbid MC to sleep naked as certain wolf like to sneak in. But 1 hot summer night, MC sleep in her lingerie, that particular wolf just happen to visiting. They end up sleep naked again, when Gong mama found blood in the bed sheet, she almost frightened. But soon know MC just got menstruation.

* ML also exploit his bad reputation by hold MC hand and all touchy mode in public. Because the 1 who will be blame will be ML and MC will be look as victim.

* When MC's cousin Yuan-something sleepover, ML happens to come and see his "wife" sleeps with other girl. He almost kill that poor cousin (LOL). This cousin also the 1 tell MC about ML bad reputation and ML happens to peeping at them, making ML angry. This also happen to YuYao wengzhu (daughter of eldest princess) who comes to sleepover at MC's place.

* Despite all the bad reputation of ML, there is many girl still "dare" to offer their lives seduce ML. MC's relatives from mother side (Zhang) is 1 of them, She tried to seduce ML while ML and MC on dates in mid autumn festival. What happen after was ML and MC didn't even look at her, but ML's subordinate directly dunked the girl to river (with their inner though of "WHO IS THIS GIRL TRY TO DISTURBS MASTER'S DATE").

* another is after they married, they went to a flower farm ML decorated for long time for MC. 2 of the girls in the farm got "courage" to seduce ML. They got shamed by MC with telling all available men who want to marry that MC want to give marriage. Nobody want to take a bride that thinking too high, the only 1 want to take them is old man or poor gambler. When they refused and asking MC to forgives them, MC just doesn't care. * When they in emperor's entourage to summer palace, they go to forest to date (ML drag MC to forest in front of everyone including the emperor and MC's family). They play near small pond, and all touchy kissy mode (this happen to be seen by RFF). So they disturbed by assassins, at 1st ML just say he got something, and go a bit far to intercept them. But MC soon know and got targeted. ML goes berserk mode and kill those assassins. He then afraid MC will be scared looking at him like this, but MC hug him, ofc this wolf is wagging his tails soon.

* ML just indulge all MC doing and wishes. Whatever rare flower she wants, he will try to get it then use any channel to "secretly" send it to MC's hand. When MC send flowers to other people, he will use whatever mean to take it (either buy it or by force), and raise them in his flower farm. He happens to be very jealous to a flower which SYL send. Even vowed to 1 day will burn it (LOL).

* Because MC had conflict with 3rd uncle and his daughter (the 4th xiaojie), they tried to frame MC's mother by making Bai-yiniang lost her child. By the power of Luo grandma, it was soon revealed it's scheme by 3rd household. The next day the 3rd uncle bring home a pregnant yiniang to 3rd household (karma happen so fast). ML also make sure the 4th xiaojie become 3rd prince concubine, and making the uncle got the wrath of 2 prince because he deem as putting his legs in 2 boats (both 1st prince and 3rd prince). The uncle later got accident fall and trampled by horse, making him paralyzed.

im sorry i got no romantic bone describing it LOL...i found ML has very yandere way to revenge for MC LOL...everybody who tried to scheme MC got either humiliated, raped, crazy, power taken, trampled by horse, dunked in the river (you name it, it might be done) by ML.

ML deliberately gave MC things (mind numbingly expensive) in such large quantities so that it's hers completely, instead of his stuff that she can use after marriage.

MC treats ML as a pillow. They got into a minot fight over something so MC told him sleep in the study. ML goes to the study and works a little. Afterwards he contemplates whether he'd be able to get back into the room that night. The general steward Mu says MC can't sleep either. He goes back and MC thinks forget it, the pillow is back.
ML can't sleep to well if he isn't with MC. Which is why he's been sneaking into her room at night before marriage.

Spoiler: ML son and about Fu Yun Ting

A few of the questions in the novel doesn't get answered until the extra chapters. Particularly the things that ML didn't know about even in his past life. ML after he ascended the throne in his past life never took an Empress or a consort, his entire harem was empty. The one that succeeds him after his death is his son with MC, which MC got preggo with after a one night stand with him.

Past life she only slept with him once. At the time Fu Yun Ting was still alive but pretty much on the execution block for treason against the country. ML doesn't kill Fu Yun Ting in this life because Fu Yun Ting is a military genius and so still uses him. His marriage with MC was pretty platonic, and actually MC was coerced into marrying FYT. Tho FYT is probably the most innocent character in this novel and the most tragic victim imo, he's completely unaware of everything, in both life. It was all his family's scheming. His mother kinda sorta threatened to ruin the Luo family if MC tries to leave him.

There's a few parallels in this novel that I found interesting, particularly ML and the Emperor. MC in past life actually died giving birth to ML's son, this is why he doesn't want children with her. MC had a premature birth and ended up doing cesarean on herself, aka cut stomach open with scissors and then sew it back up with needle by herself. ML was still too busy fighting for the throne, because in his past life he was at a reallly big disadvantage, compared to this life. He didn't find out until after her death. And also why just like the Emperor, he has a really weird relationship with his son, he's really cold to his son because he blames his son for killing MC, but he still raises his son properly as a good Emperor. His son's whole arc made me cry cuz it was really sad. Also when I think about how grandmother Luo must have felt about MC's death.

I actually skipped around quite a bit while I was reading. But I really do love all the little moments in this novel.

 

Anymore spoilers about the son’s arc

 

It's a bit long, but I'll just list off somethings

This is mostly the plot of the first quarter of the extra chapters. And it brings up a topic that a lot of transmigration novels overlook.

So MC and ML son from the other timeline transmigrate into their current 5yo son's body. They are the same person, but technically different because they grew up differently. Btw at this period this 'other' son is 20yo. After seeing some of his other self's memories he gets increasingly jealous, but he gets to meet his mother, MC, for the first time and his more healthy father. A lot of the parts are him noticing the differences between his life and this 'current' self's life.

His relationship with his father ML is quite sad, he is aware why his father dislikes him, and also feels guilty for his own mother's death but he still genuinely cares for and loves his father, because he sees how depressed his father was for the last 20 years as Emperor due this his mother's death. Like he pretty much just buried himself in work to cope with losing MC. As his son, he pretty much grew up neglected, though neglected as in just threw him to the servants to take care of him, mostly cold towards him, and didn't start actually training him personally till he was 10yo.

So eventually MC and ML realizes this is not their 'actual' son, but they never really outright say anything. Well ML does later on, but MC doesn't till the end. MC feels really guilty towards this son, because she feels that she's unable to compensate him for being absent in his life. But she also worries about her current 5yo son, since now this son is here her '5yo son' pretty much just disappeared. 20yo son eventually goes back to his timeline and 5yo son does come back in the end tho. MC conversation with him at the end is really sad. Because he tells her he's leaving and perhaps may or may not come back. Though because of this 'trip' he does gain some closure for his sad childhood.

Other than that there's just few funny moments, like ML after talking to his '20yo' son and exposing him and both realizing the other from the other timeline, they have this semi-warm father and son talk. Then ML makes his '5yo son' in charge of governing for few days while he go laze with MC.

While he was in charge he pretty much cockblocked all the officials from giving his father shove concubines. He pretty much outright says to them "Are you all dissatisfied with this crown prince that you want father to have children with other women and replace me??"
