Ohh in one of these pages someone posted a pov of riftan when he was at the dukes castle and that a drunk woman wanted to hook up with him and he firmly told her no but she had already smooched him a couple of times before leaving and when he turned a corner he bumped into maxi and she saw him like that, and I guess she thought he was hooking up with a girl at the time... but riftan has never touched let alone kissed another woman, as far as I’ve read.
There was a map provided in "Kim Suji One and Only" but can only be accessed in ridi app. As per this map, Anatol is located on the mountains near the ship. (Already tried twice but nothing happened.) Anyway, a thought came into my mind while reading spoilers about possible plots for book 3. Duke of croix “might” conspire with Riftan’s Enemy (forgot the name - the one who’s obsessed with Roem Kingdom, the son of another uigru incarnate who was rude to maxi) to antagonize Riftan and then everything goes from there. I dunno. maybe?

Hello everyone. I'm new here and I stumbled upon this beautiful novel "Under the Oak Tree" 3 days ago. I honestly love this novel and I hate that I haven't heard about it for such a long time. This is my first korean novel ever. I've read this thread already and I just want to thank all the amazing spoilers who took their time summarizing the chapters. I really can get enough and still have a lot of questions abt the story or I might have missed that part. Can anyone share the story on how the marriage started? I mean the part from the last banquet at Croix castle where Riftan heard abt The duke looking for a husband for Maxi up to the day Riftan was dragged for marriage. Some already mentioned here. Let me briefly summarize.. Spoiler: how they ended up getting married Riftan was actually really coerced and it's a bittersweet backstory. A lot of events happened after they met in Croyso's banquets. Riftan went back to Anatol and won't stop thinking of her. This was also the time he accumulated wealth like a madman with Maxi as motivation. Riftan wanted to offer a geth to Maxi but the duke rejected it. Then the dragon issue occured, and the duke offered the marriage to Riftan in exchange to him representing the duke.. The reason why the duke chose him was already explained here by dashie..he has no noble relatives that can avenge him. Whether or not the duke knew that Riftan likes Maxi since he tried to offer a geth, I believe wasn't cleared in the novel. Needless to say, Riftan wanted to accept the offer because he's madly in love. However, he refused because 1.He didn't want to put the remdragon in danger. 2.The reason that made him solidify his decision was because he thought Maxi deserves someone better! But the duke was persistent and threaten him by framing up Riftan's stepfather and so, the circumstances made him agree with duke's proposal. He was even escorted by the duke's knights on the wedding day, as if to make sure he abides. He was really angry but the moment he saw Maxi at the altar, everything else melted away.
Spoilers, Thank you very much for your hard work! I’ve gone through the pages and you’ve helped so very much to ease my hart! I fell like I’m in a withdrawn of the books! I have one question though, did Riftan ever explained why he have never wrote to Maxi during those 3 years after their marriage? It’s hard to believe that in 3 years he had never passed by a village or met someone whom could send or bring her a letter... Thank you all!!!!

@sweetaneng Hi follow up question here. From the beginning Riftan mentioned that he made arrangement for Maxi to inherit Anatol in case he did not make it alive. He even sent knight to take her there. I know Maxi is unaware but It was said that the Duke married her to Riftan so he can also dispose off her but why did he keep her in the Croix castle all those time?
The duke's utmost priority is to keep his family name's honor. And since he detests Maxi's stuttering, he wanted to hide her as much as possible so that no one can know her weakness.

I had the same question even after reading the first book lols. It wasn't specified in the novel but author will leave clues here and there. I really admire Kim Suji's writing style and I love how she would answer "i won't comment on that" or "I'll leave it to reader's imagination" on her Q&A. Oak tree isn't your ordinary novel and there are many parts that are nice to discuss with fellow fans.
