I put such novels to "Postponed" reading list so I know where I ended and I can return to them if Im bored or expect some change from them. I reduced my "Main" list from 20+ to around 10.
Reading just for reading is nah

It depends really, like I dropped MGA cause it was just so repetitive (though I still struggled through to ch ~500) but I'm still continuing ATG despite the same repetitiveness.
For some novels I even try to lie to myself about reasons they're good just to force myself to finish them

If I liked the novel before and have only come to simply not enjoying reading it I'll simply let it build up until I randomly feel like reading it again. If I come to actually dislike it I'll drop it.

    Writing? Maybe.

But what about the story? Do you think it's possible that certain parts of the story suddenly went downhill or doesn't flow well? That can only means the author doesn't really plan well (if at all) in advance and just wing it as he writes, and I believe such stories doesn't worth to invest your time.

NANIIII! Demon's Diary is quite good.
mine would be zhan long. I'm only sticking with it cos I've read so much already. I just let it build up and then read it all in one go. then repeat that process

There was one novel I read that I was really enjoying at the start. A little bit later though, the story took what I can only describe as the dumbest (trying to avoid using "retarded") story development I had ever seen. I read a little bit more to see if it got better, but when I realized that I not only didn't care about the characters, I actively hated them, I dropped it. I've dropped other novels because I never got interested in the characters or story, but this was the only one that I went from enjoying to hating.

What H4WK said, let the chapters build up and read it in one go.
If you still don't like it, then drop it like an ugly baby.

A lot of people said that about ZTJ, I had to keep telling them that it gets gooooood (I had read the RAW by that time and I enjoy that writing style). As soon as it hit around 130-ish, it has been cliffhangerish for a lot of people. It's slow, but it's actually going somewhere. The writing is flowery with vivid depictions (and the translation seems to do it justice as it isn't half-assed at all, makes me jelly of the TLer's ability :p), even the fights are beautiful.

So... you never know. A series could a diamond in rough with a slow start like how ZTJ (and ISSTH) was, Or it could be english DBZ in written form... could always ask someone that read the RAW if it's worth reading.

generally i wait a couple chapters before dropping. two of the recent dropped series child of light and heavenly jewel change. especially hjc since he just goes from one place to the next. the author need to write this like a novel not like an manga. as for col i dont know why its unappealing probably the thick plot armor or the shallowness of the series

Do you know why you lose interest? If it's because slow release just hold it because there people who wait:eek: years for something translated. Sometimes you will totally forget about it till see new chapter released:LOL: If lose interest in the story it self, just trow it to recycle bin. There no rule which banned you to pick it again:whistle:

I don't really want to drop anything I've started on (like anime, manga or novels) so I try to give it a chance. I only drop it if I can't endure it any longer, or if nothing changes when I skip-skim ahead.
