Vote Manipulation by King of Gods translator

Here's what the translators wrote (seen this for many days now)

It's okay to ask for rating and reviews. As long as the reader vote/review what they feel is right.

But giving incentive for reader voting 5 star ratings will skew the results for all novels on Novelupdates. Making it seem the novel is much better than it really is. Imagine if more novels do this stuff. It will mess things up for everyone.

I read the novel till the latest chapter (chapter 73) and it's good but it's not this good as the voting indicate.

Maybe change it to

-Every 50 ratings (whether it is 5,4,3,2,1 stars) = 1 bonus chapter

-Every 20 reviews (whether good or bad) = 1 bonus chapter

-Every 20 ranks KoG goes up in = 1 bonus chap

I would have no problem with that.

Well ranking is already meased up becase we vote it by our taste and not quality
and then there are a lot of haters who go around and giving 1as score no matter what they read...

 

1. It's your opinion its not as good as the votes say (which is fine, this happens in a lot of other stories)
2. He is giving incentive to give votes (never says they have to be good, i think?) and if someone has an issue with it, they can choose not to participate
3. His translation, up to him how he wants to motivate himself to translate more, if it's really that big of a problem, someone would tell him to stop
4. When checking out new novels, there is a risk you won't like it, such is life. Just because you don't like a highly rated story, doesnt mean it is bad.
TLDR: No, it's fine.

and something like this is just... needs to be brought to their attention!

 

It's actually fine, because the ones who actually like the story and want more chapters will go to rate it. Translators for God and Devil world did the same thing a few months back; they just asked for the overall rating to go past 3.8,4.0,4.5,4.8 for bonus chapters. It clearly worked, tons of rating for a so so novel by some people who liked it

 

Id say he shouldnt be doing it, after all it just makes his ratings worthless now...that being said. It is a cheap easy way to get free bonus chaps, and when you see such a biased rating, any NU user who isnt brand new, knows to take it with a big spoon of salt.

 

The fact that people are willing to vote for them, means they truly want to read continuation of the novel. Therefore it should be alright to do this. If they did something like pay for ylthe vote or give something that has nothing to with novel as incentive, then I would be against it.

 

A sticky situation one that probably has kind intentions but ends up causing chaos.

 

It's not fine. If a pizza place was giving out slices for 5-star Yelp reviews or if Trump was handing out 100 dollars for votes they would be wrong legally and ethically. He's not offering incentives. He's buying votes.

 

dude the rating system have been broken for months. this means nothing

plus if you think about it people who want to read it and love it would 5 star it anyway

 

Do you think the novel would get this kind of rating without the translator asking readers to vote for 5 star rating? I have no problem with asking for vote, just don't tell readers to vote for 5 stars and giving incentive to vote for 5 star.

but asking SPECIFICALLY for 5 stars rating and giving incentive to readers to vote for 5 stars is a No No.

 

Honestly it really is outrageous, but there's a but here, that's under the assumption that the ratings were actually worth something.

Ratings are so skewed & pointless already that I honestly don't mind if they get fucked up even more in exchange for chapters.

You're completely right, the translator is buying ratings. (Which should be a bad thing.)

But because ratings aren't worth anything and are completely useless, it's more like he's arbitrarily giving out free chapters.

Truthfully I'd say it's still wrong and shouldn't be ok, but benefits > morals.

 

It makes novels go high up the ranking without deserving it!
and other novels that might actually deserve to go up there, don't!
Even though it might have better translation quality, story, characters, pacing etc!

plus this can encourage other translators to do the same

 

That's where you are wrong.He didn't say that he will pay money to who vote,so everyone will go to vote,but he said he will give chapters,and that means the ones who vote,and not everyone is getting something.And if you vote 5 stars ever just for the chapter,it means you like the novel
And the translator doesn't really get something material from these votes,maybe just more people trying the novel...

Rather than manipulating the ratings, I think it's more likely manipulate the bonus chapters.
He's gonna add a bonus chapters, if his project's were popular. It's all depends on the readers anyway, whether they really like it or not. So I think there's nothing wrong with it

 

The moment it matters is when (if) the translator slows down the normal updates and compensates with these "bonus" ones.
