In manga/webtoons and anime. Like- Spoiler: Exhibit A The "obscene" COCKroach. Justifiably censored. {} Spoiler: Exhibit B A censored chibi butt. SSR. {} NSFW. So what instances of censoring have you come across which you found odd or amusing? Pictorial evidence preferred.
Visual censorship makes sense to me. What I find ridiculous is musical censorship. I have actually learned slang for drugs specifically because radios will censor part of a song that I've heard before.
Don't have a picture example, but I do have a real life example. I got in trouble with a school administrator for using the word pissed when answering a question. Apparently some people consider it an obscene word, as it can also mean wasted. Here I just thought it was another word for being angry. FYI this was a college course so I still think it was a little weird for them to be so uppity.
They censored a vase in here, true the vase got a rather... peculiar shape but still, they censored it, shame on them Spoiler: Here is a video Skip to 0:28 BTW, Gintama censored lots of things, I won't go there
THE CENSORSHIP OFF WALKING NUCLEAR BUNKER IS RACIST! wait..... imo divine light, defying gravity and mysterious steam censorship still the weirdest thing at same most amusing... picture? just search ecchi bath scene
Ahh, Seitokai Yakuindomo. No wonder! That is more obscene than most visual ecchi! Ah yes, Japanese "ingenious" censorship. Oftentimes, I think the censorship is more creative/innovative than the story itself!
NU censoring the word "scrape" (as in scrape by) in one of my reviews, presumably because of scrape, still pretty silly imo.
Odd ones for me are when you read a novel and the writer has **** in the middle of the sentence. It’s weird censoring where even the translator can’t figure out what word was censored~
Aren't they censored for comedic value? As far as I'm aware, pissed is a swear word regardless of how it's used since it comes from the word piss which is also a swear word. The fact that one of it's meanings is related to alcohol isn't relevant to it's status as a curse word at all.
... is there really a point to censoring anymore? As @Diametric put it, the censorship becomes the comedy.
Is piss and pissed really considered profanity where you live? Interesting it must be a local thing, because in my part of the country we don't think it is obscene at all. Well maybe a little crude, but not as bad as words like damn, or crap.
I live in England, and pissed is significantly worse than damn or crap here. I think that words like damn or crap would be acceptable on tv shows for someone in their mid teens, but pissed definitely wouldn't.
The flower field scene on OPM (during Saitama's 1st fight w/ Sonic) & Excel Saga (she murdered the author of her manga. I get it that the scene might be too graphic, but covering it w/ flower field & music while keeping the audio while she done the deed!? )
Well there you go, I'm from the US and here piss is just a somewhat crude version of pee, and pissed is just pee in the past tense or another way of saying you're angry or irritated.
I remember playing this one RPG game. you know how there are different zones and stuff? well, one of those happened to be a rainforest of some kind, with lots of underbrush. Though, I didnt play the game in english; so I'm not sure what the english name of said region would be. Anyways; my point is, They censored it, or at least the part that coincidentally said d*ck. Thats how I learned what that word means in the english language, by the way!
