Discussion What do you like most about Xianxia novels?

For me it's the beautiful scenery and the simplicity of its plot. I grow tired of western novels with the complicated plots and the long descriptions to describe dull things.

 

The fact that everything will go right, no matter what happens. It's the exact opposite of my life.

 

The idea of immortality, infinite worlds, ancient beasts what is it lacking it's a mans romance!

 

Mainly for the most part its simply explained as the 'wish fulfillment'. There is very little emotional influence, and even when it does it doesnt sink in very deep. Western novels especially those that are truly 'books' and not online novels, tend to be quite a bit more about getting one mentally/emotionally invested. While its enjoyable at times, it just isnt a good long term enjoyment policy for me.

 

Killing arrogant people, even if the mc himself is arrogant.

I like the diverging points of most xianxia's like the intro of yellow dog in dragon marked war god or the addition of the Dragon girl in world defying dan god. Usually it will just be a normal xianxia up till that point but everyone can agree that all xianxia's grow stronger with the addition of quirky characters like lord 5/3

 

The rich and vibrant characters that brimming with emotions.
The unpredictable plot with a few twist here and there.
A romance that make your heart throb violently.

 

In general, I'm a bigger fan of wuxia. To me xianxia usually have their charm in the beginning when the characters are being developed but as it moves forward it's a little to drawn out. Also, the tendency to turn into harems is something I dislike but I enjoy the descriptions of scenery and the fight scenes when they're not just throwing large balls of energy at each other, and that apparently everybody is Han Solo until Han Solo shows up and kills all the other Han Solos

 

I like fiction that takes place over long periods of time. Normally stories just cover a period of a character's life. These will cover pretty much an entire lifetime.

 

Vibrant beautiful lands that makes our current world look like a piece of s***.
Excellent fantasy world building
Excellent characters and plotlines
Great romantic relationships and buildup ( for the very few i.e ISSTH, Douluo Dalu, and HJC even if they aren't completely xianxia)
Cool, refreshing techniques and power upgrades.

 

I like that shit actually happens in Chinese light novels (xianxia), in most manga, anime and comics of superheroes the MC's are cowards (pu**ies) they wont get revenge on the people that have killed their families, loved ones, the romance sometimes doesn't go anywhere and yea the idea of multple worlds and immortality and gods fighting and killing each other sounds pretty badass.

P.S. i did say most and not all, because i know their's berserk, ubel blat,bloody monday and naruto and they my favorite due to that.

Its like a cheap instant food for me. Full of cliches, repeating plots, unbelieavable happenings.. but you dont have to think much for it. Just turn off your brain and skim read it.. and drop it when it gets redundant. If you want a change in the settings a bit, theres always the next hundred of titles to read. Because all these authors seems to like to copy each other's work anyway. For the generic 3rd rate ones atleast.
