Discussion What do you like the most in a protagonist?

When you are reading a novel what kind of personalities do you like the most?

it depends on the mood, one time i liked the MC of salaryman. . . .but then that mc just done things that make my blood boil. . .
something like that,

 

Decisiveness.

 

the fact that they have some morals
that's the nr1 reason i usually end up disliking chinese novels

 

I just need the MC to have common sense everytime.

Nothing is better than when an emotional MC just suddenly snaps and do everything in a calm, tranquil, and calculating manner while their enemies get freaked out and run for their lives.
Or when an antagonist fights someone who actually has no emotion and is a sociopathic hero.

 

Not really a type of personality but I'm huge fan of the, let's call it "reverse young master", as in the main character hides most of his or her strength and connections only to show it of at an opportune moment.
You know, some jerkass going on about his greatness and that mc should honor him cause his dad is the big cheese, his dad comes in, recognises the Mc as a dragon/god/whatever and realises that his son just majestically fucked up.

As a personality I like the low-key, stay in the background kind of main-characters who play the hidden dragon and don't try to get into the limelight

 

Not acting like a Disney princess for once

 

The ability to stick to their "morals" that they lay out at the beginning of the story

 

As long as they're interesting.

Calm and calculating
MC using his brain and common sense in a world where everyone seems to have rocks in their heads doesn't count.
Something like Warlock of the magus world and the Wang Yu novels(RMJI,DD,Portal) and less enemies spouting ''YOU ARE COURTING DEATH'' over nothing

 

I find Yan Zhaoge from HSSB to be pretty likeable. Smart and sensible, while tolerably arrogant at times.

 

Gotta have balls, a protagonist's halo and naught but the mightiest plot armour!

 

Shamelessness

 

A character true to oneself until the end. An MC whose character is dragged around by the plot and changes without reason is the worst.

 

I like the expert reborn into a foppish lord body and switches between a foppish and expert behavior.

 

I like indifference, so Tatsuya Shiba will always be the perfect MC for me. But for a more grounded/general MC I prefer ones that have common sense, and don't blush, stammer or get nervous anytime a girl winks their way. Perverted MC's are also a no-go. Rudeus Greyrat (Mushoku Tensei) for example. He's everything in a character I hate.
