I guess the abuse she got since childhood made her to be someone who will just accept abuse from her husband? She became a nail who accepts her fate to be hammered.
Otherwise in general terms, it is the training of a woman and a man from an early age to meet the expectations of parents (and therefore of a society, which is frowned upon now, hence the caricature) ~
Indoctrination Objectification Propriety That one panel can mean all of these things and many more, it all depends on the perspective of the viewer. I view it as the parents pushing their child to a better life because why else would they be weeping at the wedding? They had to be harsh in pushing their child to success even if the child didn't want it. But that is just how I view it. I'm sure people will view it in a more negative light than in a positive one.
I must admit, what I find interesting here is actually the parents whose heads aren't modified to fit into a cultural or sexual norm, but are just human.
I see a girl, brought up to become a hardened nail of resentment against her aged parents. The husband is a diabolical partner and metaphorical hammer to put that final nail in the coffin for his in-laws. Together they'll abscond with her parents' assets. The drops of liquid at the last panel aren't tears, but cold sweat from the mother as she realizes her impending doom.
That someone has to do the pounding if someone is to be nailed. Did I nail it? Or do I need to hammer it in once more?
The poor girl's head got turned into a nail from all that yelling. That husband better not smash too hard or else she'll bend. But honestly, it could either be that they yell at her because they wanted her to be able to grow up, learn from her past mistakes, and find the one she really loves or they could be trying to lower her self-esteem and morph her into the kind of person they want her to be.
