Question What happens if I translate a Qidian novel?

I'm thinking of trying 17K, no more Qidian for me. But I'm still quiet curious about the problems that come with the publishers (for future translations). I'm a single translator and I'm fairly new so I'd like all the experience that I can get

 

Just go for, you'll get credit for it and publicity.

I havent heard anything about 17K beating up fan translations so far.
But that news could have been swept under the rug so its up to you but know they have a better rep than qi with our community right now

you sure mate, if you look at their newly added series and upcoming ones, majority are female protag

 

If you decide to go for it, be very very careful. If someone knocks on your door at 3 in the morning, don't answer. I've heard of many translators who decide to translate a Qidian novel go missing in very similar ways.

 

Yeah, I know. The only two I'm following on their site are both new female ones (EEWC and VVC), just that majority of the one already translated are male. I kinda feel like they won't focus on the female ones that much

if your translation doesnt become popular and you are just releasing ~1chap a week, they probably wont mine

that should be fine. as long as you're not making a fortune from it and dont have a readership large enough for them to take you seriously

 

If you're going to get attach to the novel and release a decent amount of chapters a week (enough to collect at least a medium sized fanbase), better go for other publishers. We really do need more good female protagonist novels~

 

I've just been in the mood for a good female novel recently and I couldn't find a good one so i decided to translate. I was kinda surprised by how picky i was about it

 

Most of the novels here in the TLed novel community have a male protagonist because both the TLs and readers are mostly male. Having some female protag novels could also lead to having more females in the community, and that's equivalent to more variation (also possibly more TLers so yay!). No need to stress about what's overused here. Just do whatever you want.
