In btth as well as other novels the Mc wields a ruler. Is it "a straight strip of rigid material" as I imagine or is it something else?

It's typically a large edge-less type of sword.

Teaches used to whack kids with that. Their poor palms. Of course, it was a much smaller, less metal (more nature) kind of weapon.

Wouldn't this be a scholars weapon like the short whip that's used by daoists? Never thought it was anything other than a ruler.... I've been informed thanks thread!

Basically a broad sword with no edge. Broadswords never really needed much of an edge (the force of one of them being brought down on soft, supple flesh pretty much hewed everything down to the bone, sharp edges just made the process slightly simpler, the really big ones were generally never even sharpened, they just had the general sword shaped.) So a ruler is basically the blacksmith going "f**k this" and decided not to even bother with an edge

Better looking than what i imagined. Thanks. I always pictured it more like Bleach`s first weapon , thin handle real wide blade, only blunt.

Do you need to know more about what a ruler is?
Read The great ruler novel. Where the ruler mesure every sizes there is in anyone the ruler met. And eventually be a greater ruler than he already is.

It was actually a weapon used by constables. Perhaps originally from Japan, the sai developed from this as well. So you see variations with some having one or two prongs.

It is mostly when a sword is too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and being far too rough is also a feature. One could say theyare mostly a heap of raw iron.

Well thats the basis of what I kept picturing prior to this point with it being described as both blunt and heavy, as for the description... Well as you can see its just a slightly edited description of Dragonslayer
