Discussion What is the worst novel you've ever had in your reading list?

I've read Invincible Saint, and I don't regret reading it. I just stopped reading when it got stupid and boring. It's not bad to just appreciate and enjoy the good parts of a bad novel

 

I dunno - I have just enough OCD that quitting a novel (or tv show, or movie, or song) halfway literally hurts, so my ragequits that actually pass that bar tend to be kinda epic.

Nothing remains.

I did have a recent 'oh hell no' moment when starting a RRL OEN novel named Fantasia, the author (like too many juvenile translators) ejaculated his witty commentary in parenthesis all through the text, making story immersion impossible and turning his own novel into an MST3K text episode.

It ticked me off so badly I did some quick regex non-greedy research and ran this in the browser console on every chapter:

The novel still wasn't good enough to get past 20 chapters. : P

Anyway, novels I remember that I wish I didn't would be:
Zhan Long
Shield Yuusha (after the celebrated dismemberment)
Areifureta (after the maso dragon)
Close Combat Mage (after the betrayal, and when I learned the rest was a onepiece ripoff)
Commushou (W. T. F. )
Gate of Revelation.
Destination of Crybird
Swamp Girl (Tough independent adventurer genderflipped into whiny idiot girlpet)
True Martial World and Martial World (what was the point again?)
Omni-Magician (IronMan. Then the gattling gun)
Skyfire Avenue (rape than love than oops then why-the-hell-am-I-bothering-with-this?)
Atypical Reincarnation (a very typical reincarnation story)

 

So far, only 2 Japanese novels.

My wife is a beautiful CEO. it was good at first but the MC is too perfect. He's married but cheats on his wife. Hes surrounded by women at what feels like all times. Only time other men are introduced its for him to fight over some random woman that's not his wife.

Library of Heavens path. It was promising (about teacher-class with no romance relationship) and funny, the repeating parts of the plot could be ignored, but i became disgusted after i noticed that many of the characters that suffered from the MC were actually innocents that have a point in what they try to say. And almost all of the people that commented after the chapter laughed at them and demanded that the MC make them suffer more. It made me remember the school research about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: the citizens of USA were asked for their opinions about those two atomic bombs after the deed and about 23% wanted for more of the bombs to be dropped. Humans are brutal...

and the rest is acceptable and very little I really like

 

HEY. OtokoNara is slow, yes, but it's also one of the few really detailed and fleshed out novels that actually uses prior knowledge - you take that downvote back! : )

 

Alot of harem isekai novels.

All xianxia CN novels.
Only cn novels I enjoy are the romance focus ones like meow meow, rice pot, your love rival wife and disciple died again.

Taming Master not that bad, and one of the good ones about battling pets and taming monsters.

Yeah. I dropped PGC because of how the MC get into trouble all the time since everyone hated her for no reason. Not to mention the stupid cold male lead. But the I picked it up again when their relationship developed and it's getting better after that.

Oh btw worst novel in my list is Shadow Hack. It once dominated qidian top ranking for a while. I thought it would be good. But it's actually garbage and I've never been so frustrated when reading a novel.

 

Asides from the numerous japanese stories that I read to see if they were "really that bad" and yes, yes they were. But Sovereign of the Three Realms is one that stands out as reading a few hundred chapters and then just saying to myself "No this is so fucking awful" and took it off.

 

I also think invisible dragon is the worst
but the other one, it couldn't be Semi Datte Tensei Sureba Ryuu Ni Naru could it? that's surprising. it's the best novel to many people

 

Sadly some entered my reading list because I was an early adopter of the translation and it had a good premise, later I saw my mistake and abandoned them

 

Many novels involving anything about cultivation since it rinse and repeat.

 

It's because you're not allowed to have sex in chinese novels (rape seems to be more lenient). There are pretty steep convictions for it. Apparently some woman got over 10 years in jail because she wrote a homosexual story that sold over 7000 copies. When I was searching around I got the impression that the reason these CN Novels based on Ancient China do so well is because the China of today is still living it. Women have no rights except those granted to her by the status of her family.
