Most MCs that I've seen are anti-hero, Hero (realists not goodie two shoes) and goodie two shoe heros. Most of the time when you have an evil MC you just feel that they are evil by things they do that you don't agree with and they are major moral issues with the character (although we know their motivations for doing what they do.. Objectively they are evil.)

I think Leylin is a perfect example of an Evil MC that you just love to root for. He's surrounded by evil people and even the righteous are flawed too. The only way to survive is to be more evil than the rest.

It would depend on where you start and who are you rooting for. As the reader, it's natural for us to support the MC when he protects a noble from a bandit. But from another perspective, maybe the bandit was assaulting a corrupt noble until some pesky heroes intervene.

    Subjective topic.

    Three things are considered mainly.

    1. What your morals, ethics or codes says about what mc is doing.
    2. How the author describes what mc is doing in description, how he reaffirms an idea or justifies it.
    3. How the mc think and justifies it using what has happened to him in the story so far.
If the last two dont meet up, you call mc a hypocrite or author justifying false notions.

If only the first consition troubles you, you grow your open mind by reading ir anyway.
