Okay, this is random, but I reached the dead end when it comes to finding the right music as a backround for reading. I know a lot of ppl who don't even listen to any music at all, since it's distracting to them, so I was also curious how is it with you guys?

I find it to be distracting as well but during the times when I want some background noise I’ll listen to instrumentals or soft pop. I’ve been really into guqin after watching The Untamed so that’s been my go to for the last year or so

Idk what it is, but whenever it's a big "showdown" I tend to want to listen to stuff like this

And in general more "pop" ish sounding music, like this

But my go-to is just to throw on a station for something like Disturbed or Trivium.

I used to listen to K-pop mixes, specifically sleepy or super cheerful ones, then I went to C-pop, and now I'm in the middle of French and Thai music. Honestly I just like it because it's calming to have something playing in my ears while reading and hear the different sings c:
(even tho I don't understand most of it xD)

Yea, I got what you mean (listeting to songs in different language), we're on the same both. I started to go with some piano covers now, so it's even less distracting, but yea, i've heard those songs so many times that it's starting to get annoying. xdd

The problem is when you get to know the lyrics. I have totally given up on some of my favorite songs for that reason. Not to mension that the instuments in metal are too heavy sometimes - they are good for a showdown, like you said tho ;D

Now that I think about it - I really enjoy 2 steps from hell as a backround music for intense scenes.
But yes, I know most of the lyrics to Lordi, A7F, TPR, …, but tysm so much for the suggestions <3

I mostly only listen to Japanese and vocaloid songs so that's that. But which songs I listen to depends on what I'm reading, I adjust the playlist as I read. When I read angst, I listen to sad songs to heighten the supposed mood. Same with other types of emotions. Sometimes I can pause my reading for as long as I can find the proper playlist to accompany my reading. But frankly it's often when I'm too immersed to the story the music just turns into background noise I barely notice

yes, yes. I do the same thing - still I guess sad songs are more of backround music then vocaloids, altrough I love em both. I totally fell in love with Queen Bee, even through their music is really catchy and mostly happy.

I usually can't stand background/instrumental music for some reason :ROFLMAO: even as I'm doing something else. Unless it's engaging enough for me, I guess.
Yeah it's a bit hard looking for sad vocaloid songs that sounds sad, the producers like to mask the theme in cheery tones :blobpensive:

I listen to nonEnglish songs, same when I'm studying, since it's easier to tune out things I can't understand

I agree. I've found listeting to vocaloids is really good when drawing and stuff, it keeps me energized :)

I usually listen to Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Nier Automata or Beserk osts. But it depends on what type of scene is going on imo.

I sometimes listen to bgm, no vocals. Like these:

Especially when the novel I'm reading has magic elements, I listen to magic-like bgm to get the feel of the story.

When I read sad, angsty novels too. I listen to sad bgm and just cry like a broken water pipe. Ah... I just love hurting myself ‎(✽´ཫ`✽)

Oh Yes! bgm and some ost are really good to listen to as for a backround music.
I remember reading the last chapter of Killing Stalking with the bgm that was made especially for it, and the feelings from the chapter were multiplied thanks to the bgm. Really nice.

Usually I don't listen to anything, it's distracting. When I have that irresistible thirst for music I go with playlists/albums I know perfectly.

I usually listen to piano covers like this one, but only when I'm not reading outside.
