Well, I don't give second chances, I either like the novel or don't (I keep lots of novels to a later time to try and decide whether I will read them or not) :blobsweat_2:

Record of unusual creatures. The whole begging was quite rough but it's quite good. The whole beginning and title would have you believe it's a novel about fantasy creatures living in his apartment. When it's actually a story about a person being selected as a divine beings agent and visiting various lost civilisations, abandoned world's and unique places doing his work as an inspector.

I'm not great at giving second chances. I remember I initially dropped ICDS though after first couple chapters cause I just wasn't getting into it (should have given it more of a chance at time lol). After reading EER though I went back and gave it another try and enjoyed it.

I recall initially overlooking Arcane Emperor because I didn't have a good feeling for RR webnovels at the time since 90% of them are hot garbage (a bias I guess). It ended up being one of my favorite stories though.

I don't feel like there are too many I've given second chances, but I feel theres a lot I wish I never gave that first chance, eek!

Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich. The first chapters were kinda a drag, but it got sooo much better later on.

Golden time and the great storyteller are absolute favourites of mine. I've finished both but it actually took me like 2 tries to get into the book, but once I'd started I binge read them to the end

I think I would have dropped that too, had I not read reviews and saw people warning that the first few chapters sorta bounced all over the place and could be confusing to people getting into it. Sure enough I was finding it a slow read to get into, but it kept growing on me bit by bit.

I never give a novel I stop a second chance. I have read enough bad ones to know when one is bad enough to drop, but before I do drop I look at reviews and spoilers to see if things get better before I do.

I've put books on hiatus as an alternative to dropping them altogether. I find that when I come back to these books later on, they're never all that good. And it's because I put them on hiatus for serious reasons to begin with: issues with characterization or narrative or themes. And if a book is well written it would never have these issues to begin with. If a book was put on pause because of pacing issues or because it just takes some time to build up steam, then that'd be a different story, but I can't see myself ever semi-dropping a book for that reason.

Jiang Hu’s Road is Curved. Was gonna drop it because the MC’s personality annoyed me but then that twist mid-novel and how she was forced to grow up after that made it all worth it. Ah, feelz.

Oh I dropped that really really early. I vaguely recall something like
Tentacle raping a dark elf intruder or something
and decided that sort of MC is too nasty/evil for me about, what? 4yrs ago? I don't even know if my memory is even close to correct anymore.

That was another one, fantasy creatures living in apartment alone is interesting.

City of Sin. The Prologue is way too long, I tried reading it but it makes me sleepy and bored. I skimmed the prologue and get to the main part. However, the MC has to endure all the abuse from the get go and it just make me give up on it every time.

As I recall the score on NU wasn't quite high as it is now back then.

Dropped in chapter hundred something but I'm glad I gave it a second chance. It has one of the most satisfying ending.
