Magic is worth waiting for it. Also, I assume I can extend my life span after successfully cultivating so I got all eternity to get down.
Yeah, but the problem is everyone else also gets their lifespan extended. tbh, some people shouldn't live too long.
If I could raise my lifespan infinitely who wouldn't become a mage? Imagine id first become the strongest under the heavens then find some small world and inslave them all go write books for me of course I'd give them many benefits still reading for all eternity that sounds like true joy
If by extending my life span kept me young and healthy. I don't want to live old enough to bitch more about my broken back.
You should throw in some extra restrictions, like it doesn't work if you don't have much of a sex drive or you irreversibly lose all your magery if you try and 'enjoy' after you reach the age marker, or if you are in an environment where it's not possible (either by isolation/gender segregation or brainwashing with drugs or government propaganda and the like). You have to capable of it, have access to it, desire it naturally and deny yourself it for 30, 50, 70 years or more to achieve it. That said, I've got a pretty good start going so I'd try. I'd fail under those extra conditions though.

Simplest thing to do would be have an awakening in which you encounter a dream/illusion in which you are tempted that you have to pass before you can use magic. No way to escape temptation. Not that I'm making that a part of the original question it just gives that extra restriction.
Grow up in a Sociopathically Repressive Ultra-Devout {insert denomination} Arch-Conservative Family, (sufficiently not-sane that your parents do a weekly 'tissue count' to see if you've been doing something you shouldn't - and discuss / compare with the neighbors) where you are expected to marry whomever your parents decide, who just so happens to be a frigid self-hating nilihist with a Stepford Smile, and you'll make 30 easy*. In that environment, I guaranty - sex will be just about the LAST thing on your mind. Give a bonus of an extended lifespan AND the opportunity to do something that renders your entire family unwilling to talk to you Ever Again, and hell yeah ~ no downside! *: may or may not be autobiographical. : )
the real kicker is going to be where on the sliding scale of magic you get to be. is it stage magician rabbits out of a hat magic? Or is it i can create whole worlds inside of a teacup levels of magic? Like if for every 30 years you didn't have sex you got a genie wish (baring the usual nonsense of wish multipliers) would it be worth it. And what would the world look like? Gold would be worthless.
