It really depend on author's skill to portray a character.

I guess all I will ask is competency from an MC (if they want to do something, do it properly and make sense to reader) and if possible, no harem/comedy.

other preference:
- I want MC that suffers and struggle not to suffer and grow to overcome battering turmoil that's rollercoaster of feel.

what do you mean "ideal"? A mc should have a distinct personality that isn't "ideal" or identical to any other mc

I don't think there is a ideal MC in these Xianxia novels Most of the time its the villains that want to start shit just because the MC is either strong, has a good item, magic core, emperor sword, and some shit that makes them attack the MC. The Villains then go and say since my Clan is so old, powerful, and in general you should just stroke my penis give me your shit and die in ditch somewhere away from my awesomeness. I actually think I have not seen that many MC if left alone would be a bad person. It just they keep getting fked with cause that is the nature of all those Chinese novels.

Japanese novels I just usually avoid most because MC are so weird and neutral in their stories or dense beyond belief. In Japanese novels that I do read. I prefer the good nature MC that is dense like Oga from Beelzebub at least he is a nice guy and will beat the crap out of people that are d bags. I dislike realistic MC in the novels that are like 'Oh no. Im super strong but since I dunno this world and these people I will just stand by and let it happen' its not like he has a Invincible OP body and has been told he can destroy or defeat anything in the world. Its like dude just wear a mask test the waters you were pretty much just told(by either god or just reading his god damn status) you cannot be killed, beaten, or defeated.

 

for me the ideal MC is Meng Hao, no one else

Okay maybe combine with Jun Xie (OEM) and Meng Hao (ISSTH).
Cool silent + Brain + Badass + OP - Harem = my ideal MC. I guess.

 

But Yen Press License lets us support the author without having to buy moon runes which we (probably) don't understand. It might be bad for the readers who follow the series that are already translated a lot, but for series early in their translations it can be a godsend. Although I do admit that at times, Yen Press translations can be too literal and ruin the story.

My ideal MC is someone like Regis from Altina, with a little more confidence.

Well tbh the DMCA thing varies (looking at SAO), and well, they are a business you know, of course they will go for something that is popular. Not sure what you mean with the America thing, you can purchase most of the Yen Press translations from kinokuniya book stores no?
