Discussion Which anime with a European or American setting would you want to direct a live-action movie of?

Anime that has a European or American setting or tone might be more ideal as there is less of an issue with possible Whitewashing. One that comes to mind is "91 Days". This would be the one that I would want to direct. Were the movie to happen, it would be produced and released by 20th Century Fox had Disney not bough them out.

a. It's an original anime so there is less to worry about straying from a source material. It is set in the U.S. through a fictional Illinois town called Lawless. It is mainly set in 1928, so there is the period piece aspect. Also, there are various American crime films, especially mobster ones, that have had critical acclaim and done O.K. to really well at the domestic box office. However, being a mob movie, it's full potential would likely be more realized as an R-rated movie.

b. However, even though there are plenty of Italians in this country, we would want someone closer to age for our lead guy, Angelo. In the show, he is about 19. So, getting an Italian actor who is 20 when they started filming might help.

c. Oh, and provided he was willing, I would try to get at a cameo by Austin Tindle. While he might be best known as Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul, I really enjoyed his Angelo. Heck, I consider it his greatest anime performance. Actually, I would try to get cameos from most if not all of the Eng. dub cast that played a named character or that were credited as "Mob Fodder #1".

This is 1 of anime were watching the Eng. dub, which you can find all but the OVA of on Crunchyroll, might be the better choice. They even use Italian accents.

Fullmetal Alchemist... If one can retain the SFX stuff and the gorey/horror details. And it wouldn't be a movie, but a series.

I recommend watching the Eng. dub.

 

Black Lagoon and Jormungand

 

Seems like a great reason to remake it tbh.
For me, Cowboy Bebop. I loved it growing up. That OST is still on heavy rotation on my playlist. They were filming it here in NZ. No idea when it resumes.

 

Perhaps in some cases I would prefer a TV series.

(I also just remembered the live action of Black Butler, looked ridiculous... yep )

 

Think Monster is the only one that I would have any particular interest in seeing a live action of, if the locations and spoken languages all were to match the the source material, meaning mostly set in Germany and with german speaking actors.

They did a reverse Whitewash of sorts and perhaps that is in part why it failed.

 

I just have bad memories of all live-actions I have seen of animes, so... None... >.>
