The thing is that you will likely fail a lot. Just like with everything else. If you ask out 20 people chances are a few will accept and you get practice either way. Not everybody is lucky to get a perfect match next to them.

Just ask them out for a coffee, lunch or something simple. Show interest and ask to meet up again. If they keep meeting up you have succeeded in most cases (unless friend zoned, which is still success but of a different kind).
