Why are kid's songs so catchy?
Like the Baby Shark song...
Because they are designed to be sung along with. It is much more fun for kids if they can sing along- which means it needs to be catchy (or easy to learn) and more upbeat music and flashy colors (that's why kids movies/shows/music videos are like this) are like crack for the kid's brain (i'm not joking, the way their brain physically reacts to it is crazy)
Repetitive beats. Upbeat melody. Simpler lyrics. Easier for kids to remember and also for the equally short attention span adults of today.
Lowest Common Denominator. In order for a song to appeal to a variety of children, it has to be designed to be easy to listen to, easy to sing with, easy to learn, cheerful, and simple. Unstrangely, this also appeals to a lot of adults. Also this is a fun article:
We Made Some Scientists Explain Why "Baby Shark" Is Stuck in Your Head
Not all of them are tho? The children songs I remember weren't overly catchy. They did stay in one's head. The main point of children songs were that they told stories.
Maybe it's the difference between the writers? The songs I grew up with were written by adults who made shows for schools. Baby shark is a pop song from a young idol or something right? Mondialisation at work.
Cause they are made to hypnotize people into obedient subjects
catchy? dunno~ different age this cat mean generation lol~
it also depend on culture, really~ as cat who grow up on various place this cat think..... there not really catchy some indeed, it also not always up beat or fast some even slow~ the similar trait for children song : they are short, simple lyric, rhyme. hmm go try listen to traditional children song from your country~
*the backyardigans theme song repeats on head*
They may or not be catchy but if you remember them is coz you liked 'em...
catchy songs gives you that happy vibes, Childhood are supposed to be a happy time. Happiness begets happiness?
And yet some children songs got dark meanings.
because it reminds us of our memories when were kids, where there's no problem and we don't think much
Exactly, but the children might not know the meaning at the time. Ignorance is a bliss
I think because they are made to be catchy
I don't understand it either that it's Rank 1 on YouTube. Maybe a bug.
It overtook despacito and oppa Gangnam style.
But it's funny to Show it to people who didn't know it
Nobody mentioned it yet? It's to catch the children's or your attention.
Because they are meant for kids. Kids like fun things (tones), even better when it's simple.
Give me an example
Ring around the Rosie is one I could get on top of my head. It's about the Great Plague in London around 16 hundreds.
oh wow, I never knew that
If I'm not mistaken, the lyrics was a reminiscent of the black death.
Omg we're in the same page
Yah, I think there was a line in the song "a pocket full of posies", posies of herbs are meant as protection against the diseases and a way to conceal the smell.
So umm, I did a quick search and this is the first article that showed up. Read if interested. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.va...Disturbing-Origins-of-Popular-Nursery-Rhymes/
