    Greetings.

    This thread intrigued me. I've read majority of the posts. I can see that the thread starter, Tides cannot read or comprehend.

    Anyhow, I've done some research... Out of boredom.
    * https://www.novelupdates.com/series/daomu-biji/ - Novel series that you read. ( https://forum.novelupdates.com/thre...st-tomb-master-post.88581/page-5#post-6079256 )
    With your history of removing too many tags, I checked the 'side stories' and notice that there isn't a lot of tags for a novel with 2000 in weekly ranks.
    * https://www.novelupdates.com/series/daddy-fantasy-world-restaurant/ - A novel that you've read in the past, this has a 3000+ weekly rank yet has a lot more tags in comparison. ( https://forum.novelupdates.com/thre...an-alternate-world.106816/page-2#post-6043004 )
    Gate of God and Black Tech Internet Cafe are two other examples. ( https://forum.novelupdates.com/threads/what-novels-do-you-recommend.117158/#post-5996610)

    Conclusion from these loose connections:
    You remove too many tags and it appears you also remove correct ones. Typically you see a Male Protagonist or Female Protagonist quite quickly into the first few chapters release of a new novel on NU yet these tags have disappeared on some of Daomu that you actively read.

    To prove us correct, the readers of the forums, you need provide your recent reading list and novels you've chosen to edit. So we can verify if your edit is truly correct or not.

    Tags are there for the users. The real genres are set by the moderators/admins of NU. That is why, removing something like "comedy" is ignorance at the highest level. Because comedy differs from culture to culture. Same does the idea about Romance.

    In principle, I'm pretty sympathetic to tides. There are books with way too many genre labels, and there are too many genres in general. Action, Adventure, and Drama are examples of ones that work for films but make no sense as literary genres. The thing is, genre is supposed to be what the book is about, and what grouping best suits it. As such, a book should only belong to a single genre: this is how the publishing industry works. There are some salient exceptions where a book can belong to another one or two genres.

    NU doesn't work like this though. It organizes books through a "everything that sticks on the wall method". And I think that it's bound to happen because all of these are user-created, and a lot of NU's users have little discipline so we end up with books in fifteen billion genres. Hell, I'd believe it if someone were to claim that most users on NU don't even know what a genre is. But the thing is, just because I don't agree with the way the system works doesn't mean that I have the right to change things willy-nilly.

    So far, I mostly just get rid of the "Historical" label whenever it doesn't fit. It's super easy to tell if books don't fit so it's a easy decision to make. But even then I only do this for books I read despite it being pretty obvious from most books' descriptions. I'm even reluctant to remove "Wuxia" and "Tragedy" labels even though I feel fairly strongly about them because these are a lot more subjective.
