I was looking at the Series Finder, and wanted to see how many novels aren't Chinese, Japanese or Korean. I wasn't expecting many, I spend most of my freetime reading and the only novel I can remember reading that wasn't one of the 3 main languages of novels here is Aku Doppleganger, but I was surprised that there are only 90 novels spread across the remaining 6 languages, and that one language, Khmer, only has one novel with one chapter listed. Part of me thinks NU should link to either more or less languages, more because there are a ton of languages used in Asian countries, and part of me thinks it should link to less because, again, Khmer only has one novel, and it seems strange to be able to search for a language on NU when there's only one result.
The simplest answer is that someone decided to translate a novel in each of those languages, and they loosely qualified as "east asian". Novel Updates primarily links to translations of Chinese, Japanese and Korean works. Those are the three most popular sources for fan translations. Translations from other languages of origin are dramatically less common, but a handful do exist, so... Might as well?
Well, NU depends on translators to get novels in others tongues so instead we need translators who are interested on them instead.
There are some more which dont have any language assigned to them, like there is one series of translating short stories from either Hindi/Bengali source which was added to nu by mistake and not removed.
Australian novels are English novels, therefore not accepted. Also, by Asian, it usually means SEA, Russia for example is not accepted.
.... No, Asians refer to the whole of Asia. Thus China, Korea, Japan all the way down to Indonesia. SEA stands for south east Asia Thus, China, Japan.... well, technically those in the north are not included Under SEA Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar? Vietnam? Brunei..... Well, idk the rest ... The 7 continents Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Europe, North America, and South America.
